Its hybrid version may appeal to those needing a subtly softer and slightly more resilient surface than the all-foam variety offers. It should hold up well for people weighing less than 200 pounds.
How it feels: The all-foam Casper Original feels like a true medium-firm. In our tests, it initially offered a shallow cradle with very little memory-foam sink, though it did soften a bit after I slept on it for a week. The Casper Original Hybrid version, which adds at least 600 coils , lies somewhere between medium and medium-firm, with a cradling thats slightly more pronounced than on the all-foam option but less fluffy than the . The Casper Original Hybrid is also a tad more resilient, though the all-foam mattress is hardly sticky to begin with.
Neither the all-foam Casper Original nor the Casper Original Hybrid offers an all-out memory-foam embrace thats because both versions have a dense non-memory-foam polyfoam layer on top, which mutes the huggy effect of the memory-foam layer below. All of this makes both the Original and the Original Hybrid feel more cushiony, as opposed to body-conforming.

My Favorite Things About The Casper Select Mattress
I think the Casper Select is a great choice for back sleepers and should give them the comfort and support they desire. The zoned support in the mattress helps ensure healthy sleep posture and could be relieving for sleepers suffering from back pain. I think depending on the sleepers weight, it could also work for some stomach and side sleepers. Since its a responsive mattress, I also think itd be a great fit for combination sleepers who switch between different positions at night. Couples could also really like this bed due to its good responsiveness, motion isolation, and edge support.
What Are The Different Kinds Of Mattresses
There are a host of different mattress types and each have their own benefits.
Foam mattresses are made entirely of layers of foam, including memory foam mattress options, latex foam or gel foam. Typically each foam layer is a different density, with high-density foam on the bottom for support and a top layer of softer foam for comfort.

Hybrid mattresses use both foam and metal coils to provide support. They are closer in design to the innerspring mattress most of us grew up sleeping on, but with added foam for comfort and additional support like memory foam, latex foam or poly foam.

My Casper Select Mattress Complaints
This is a very affordable mattress, but the catch is you need to have a Costco membership to buy it, so its not going to be available for everyone. That being said, I think the Casper Original is pretty similar to this Casper bed, along with some of our other favorite memory foam mattress options. Being a medium-firm mattress, I think some strict side sleepers may want a softer mattress and some strict stomach sleepers may want a firmer mattress.
How Firm Is The Casper Select Mattress
One of the most important components to consider before buying a new mattress is how it feels, but theres just one problem: feel can be quite subjective. To help with this, I determined the Casper Selects firmness level by testing it myself and also polling a range of coworkers, so I could be sure to get input from a variety of different sleepers.
Overall, I gave the Casper Select a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, which is just a bit firmer than the industry standard for medium firmness of 6.5.
The supportive foams in the Casper Select should keep sleepers propped up on the bed, while also giving them some nice cushioning.

Support & Motion Isolation For Casper Select Mattress
Memory foam is one of the best materials at absorbing motion, so it’s no surprise that the Casper Element performs incredibly well at isolation motion. This is especially important to couples who don’t want to disturb each other with their movements.As for edge support, it’s not great. While you won’t feel like you’re going to roll off the sides, the layers of foam do compress when you sit or lie on the bed perimeters. What Are The Differences Between The Casper Original And Casper Select
The Casper Select had far more edge support than the Casper Original.
The Casper Original is made of three foam layers and measures 11 inches tall. According to a PR spokesperson, the Original has cooling features that aim to prevent you from overheating at night. However, in my experience, I wouldnt say that its cooler than any of the other mattresses weve reviewed either.
The Select is 12 inches tall and contains four layers of foam. A PR spokesperson didn’t point to specific cooling features, though the production description mentions that it’s made with “breathable open-cell foam.” Indeed, this mattress felt consistently cool in the weeks I spent sleeping on itand thats really saying something, seeing as I had it during two Northeast heat waves when overnight temperatures didnt dip below the low 70s.
Casper claims both mattresses have zoned support, which basically means that different parts of the mattress provide more or less support to your body overnight. The company says this design ergonomically aligns your spine. However, every time I chat with the customer service desk about how the different levels of support are created, I cant get a straight answer. That said, its tough to discern how much of this is marketing fluff as opposed to features that will make a difference in your sleep. Im also not sure what it means when it comes to rotating your mattresssomething thats thought to promote even wear.

Prices for a queen-size mattress at this retailer range from $249 to more than $2,400. CR members paid, on average, $1,055 for a mattress from the company.

Casper Select Mattress Pain Relief Performance
Pain relief is closely tied to pressure relief, which is a mattresss ability to alleviate tension at pressure points. Depending on your sleeping position, youll want pressure relief in different areas. For example, side sleepers with pain need pressure relief at their hips and shoulders, while back sleepers with pain need it at the lower back.
To test the Casper Selects pressure relieving abilities, I used a pressure map, which I placed on top of the mattress. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue to green and orange to red .
Back Pain As you can tell by the mostly blue map, I felt some nice pressure relief while laying on my back and think the Casper Select could be a nice option for back sleepers with back pain. I think lightweight stomach sleepers with back pain could find relief on this mattress, but side sleepers with back pain will likely want a softer mattress.
Shoulder Pain I think back sleepers with shoulder pain could feel comfortable on this mattress. I started to notice some pressure forming around my shoulder while side sleeping though, so it may not be the best option for side sleepers with shoulder pain. Lightweight stomach sleepers with shoulder pain could also like the softer foams in the shoulder area of this mattress.
