Can You Use Hydrogen Peroxide To Clean Dog Urine

Remove Pee STAIN/SMELL (Out of Mattress)

In a mixing bowl, combine 4 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide and 2 tablespoons of warm water. A spray bottle with a few drops of dish soap can be used to combine the mixture. You should spray this solution on the stain and repeat. After this step has been completed, lightly rinse the area with water, dry it with a towel, and vacuum up any remaining moisture.

A solution of hydrogen peroxide can be used to disinfect and deodorize dog pee, as well as remove residual urine. Peroxide kills both healthy and unhealthy cells as it bubbles up, making it an extremely effective biocide. When stored in a cabinet for an extended period of time, the food grade solution will lose its potency. You can safely store a 3% solution in your home and order it online. When hydrogen peroxide is used to remove urine stains, they will be deodorized. This is the best urine odor remover in addition to the solution. For cleaning, place 8 ounces of hydrogen peroxide in a container with a few drops of liquid dish detergent.

How can I get rid of urine odor from my house? Hydrogen peroxide-based products have a number of advantages. Hydrogen peroxide can also bleach stains from surfaces by destroying bacteria that cause an odor. Before using these products, first use an enzymatic cleaner or a cleaning solution made from white or apple cider vinegar and water in a 1:1 ratio. Vinegar is acidic, so it neutralizes bacteria in dog urine, preventing the odor from being produced.

How To Get Sweat Smell Out Of A Mattress

Those long hot nights dont just make the bedroom muggy or cause the house to smell like a gym. Sometimes your sweat seeps into the mattress and leaves it with the same, musty smell as an old gym bag. In other cases, the body odor just seems to linger and make you smell like you need to take a shower as soon as you get out of bed. Lets talk about how to get sweat smell out of mattress covers and mattresses themselves.

Each night, your body generates half a pint of perspiration. The salty sweat along with dead skin particles spreads across the mattress surface. This means the first thing you can do to reduce the smell is vacuum the surface of the mattress. This lifts up dead skin cells and hair.

The next step is to uncover the mattress and washing your sheets. After all, the sheets were there to absorb that sweat and dander before it reached the mattress. If the smell is gone after youve finished the laundry, youre probably done.

However, this isnt always enough. If the mattress badly needs to be deodorized, you could sprinkle baking soda on the bed, let it sit for an hour, and then vacuum that up.

Let the liquid soak in a little, and then use a clean it with a clean rag thats been soaked in clean water. Dont let the mattress get over-saturated, or youll just trade one smell for another. Dry the area with a clean towel, dabbing but not rubbing, to soak up the moisture.

Soak The Excess Urine

How To Get The Smell Out Of Musty Bed Sheets

The urine smell on the mattress should be easier to remove if you ensure no more pee on the bed. If the urine is still fresh, soak up as much liquid as possible because the odor will be harder to eradicate if it sets deeper into the mattress. Then, use several paper towels to blot and absorb the pee.

Do not rub or scrub the urine because you might spread it on the other areas of the mattress. Avoid pressing hard when dabbing the liquid, as you might push it deeper into the mattress fibers. Next, sprinkle baking soda in the affected area to soak up the residual moisture further.

How To Get Odor Out Of A Mattress

Bad smells coming from your mattress can be incredibly unpleasant. Not only do they make it difficult to sleep in your own bed, but they can also be a sign of larger problems, like mold or mildew growth. Thankfully, there are a few things you can do to get rid of bad smells from your mattress, including airing it out, using baking soda, and vacuuming it. With a little bit of effort, you can have your mattress smelling fresh and clean in no time.

Clean Box Spring Or Foundation

How to get PEE out of a MATTRESS! â¡ Amazing

Your mattress usually rests on a box spring, bed foundation, or platform bed. Cleaning your mattress base along with your mattress prevents dust and germs from passing on to your mattress. Whenever you prop up your mattress for vacuum cleaning, remove the bed skirt and wash it.

Vacuum the surface of the box spring, foundation, or platform bed. A mattress resting on a clean base will stay fresh for longer. We suggest vacuuming your bed base as part of your regular mattress cleaning routine.

We also want to stress the importance of using a bed base, as it keeps your bed elevated from the dust, dead skin, and other cast-offs that accumulate on the floor. Keeping your mattress on the floor directly also increases the risk of moisture and heat build-up, which can enable mold growth.

Use A Baking Soda Paste

Mix one cup of baking soda with a tablespoon of water to make a paste. Spread the paste liberally over the areas that smell like pee. Use a soft-bristled brush to work the paste into the mattress surface. Allow the paste to dry completely. It is best to leave the paste on the mattress for at least four hours, so the pee smell can be neutralized.

When the paste is dry, vacuum it away.

Wash Your Bedding Regularly

Its best to wash your sheets, duvet covers, and pillowcases every week, eliminating sweat, skin cells, and allergens. Wash your sheets in hot water unless the care label states to do otherwise. The high-temperature kills germs. Fewer bacteria and allergens on your bedding means fewer chances of dust and germs permeating your mattress.

Wash your pillows once every three to four months to prevent allergen build-up. Putting your pillows and comforters out in the sun once in a while makes them fluffy because sunlight dries up the moisture in them. The UV rays from the sun also kill germs.

If you use a bed skirt, youll want to wash it every few months. If you can see visible dust on your bed skirt, its time for a cleaning.

How Do I Remove Existing Urine Stains

Existing urine stains may require more substantial cleaning solutions. In most cases, a solution of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and dish soap should suffice.

In a spray bottle, combine:

  • 8 ounces of hydrogen peroxide
  • 3 tablespoons baking soda
  • 2 to 4 drops of dish soap or liquid laundry detergent

Using the spray bottle, generously apply the solution to the stained areas of the mattress. Allow the solution to soak in, and wait several hours for it to dry. You will start to see a solid layer of baking soda forming on the mattress surface. Once dry, vacuum off the baking soda, and repeat as necessary. If moisture remains, you can spread a layer of baking soda out on the bed to help absorb it.

While hydrogen peroxide can help loosen set-in stains, it can also bleach certain materials, and it may damage or discolor delicate materials like memory foam. To avoid bleaching your bedding, remove any colored materials before using this cleaning solution. If you have a memory foam mattress, you may wish to avoid using a peroxide-based cleaning solution, and instead opt for a commercial enzyme cleaner.

How To Make An All

My son has always had a nighttime issue with wetting the bed. Even as an infant/young toddler I would have to buy the Huggies extra absorbent nighttime diapers , and at times he would even leak through those. I have spent more time cleaning his bedding then I care to count and even now at six years old, its still a very prominent issue.

His poor mattress is riddled with stains because he doesnt always tell me that the sheets were wet, and by the evening, they are dry. Despite using mattress protectors, the urine would soak through even that. I would clean it as best I could but nothing worked. Febreze and other cleaners simply masked the urine odors, and some cleaning solutions that Id found online would remove the odor but didnt work well on the stains.

So I decided to create my own method with a mattress cleaner based on items in my pantry, and its been working great! This method of removing odors from your mattress is really simple and doesnt require any fancy scented oils or kitchen utensils. I also like that the products I use arent harmful and my son can help with the clean-up.
