There are a lot of things marketed as light boxes that actually arent light therapy, so dont just buy any old light box, Dr. Saltz says. Light boxes for SAD will contain a specific grouping of UVB white lights that shine at a very high intensity. The Mayo Clinic recommends choosing 10,000-lux light boxeslux being the amount of light you receiveand ones that are designed to emit as little UV light as possible. Do Not Buy Pillows From Mattress Firm
Just trying to save my fellow Redditors some stress. Had a bad experience with some expensive pillows recently and Mattress Firm sent me an email today asking me to review my experience. So I did. Soon after, I was sent the following email:
“Hi u/LegitimateHumanBeing. Our staff has read your review and values your contribution even though it did not meet all our website guidelines. Thanks for sharing, and we hope to publish next time.”
And here’s my unedited review.
Do not buy this pillow – there are plenty of cheaper alternatives that work better/sleep cooler.
Do not buy pillows from Mattress Firm, as even if you haven’t opened it yet, and you’re still standing in the store, you can’t return them.
I’m now out $200 for pillows my wife and I won’t use. Needless to say we’ll be buying our mattress elsewhere.

What Are Happy Lights
Happy lights, also known as light therapy lamps, happy lamps, and SAD lights, give you additional exposure to light when theres less sun in the fall and winter months. But before you purchase one of these devices, be sure to see a psychiatrist to determine the right SAD treatment for you.
Its very important to first receive an evaluation from a medical professional such as a psychiatrist who can direct your treatment, because if youre incorrect and its not SAD but rather bipolar disorder, light therapy can make you manic, which is dangerous, says Gail Saltz, MD, an associate professor of psychiatry at the New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill-Cornell School of Medicine and a psychoanalyst with the New York Psychoanalytic Institute. Youll want to be followed for some period of time initially, but if light therapy goes fine, then you can eventually continue on with this treatment without medical visits being necessary, she notes.
Dr. Saltz says happy lights are used in conjunction with other medications and psychotherapy. Happy lights for SAD can be expensive initially, with many costing upwards $100, but oftentimes your insurance may cover it.
Light therapy can be a very effective and inexpensive treatment when you compare it to the costs of medication and the effects such as decreased productivity and sick days being taken, Dr. Fernandez says. Many use LED or blue lighting, which can help shut off excessive production of melatonin during the day.

| Hi Viper Daimao.The only Lux Living pillow I see on the Mattress Firm site is here and while it isnt the contour version I would imagine the materials are the same.The gel that is used as the top layer is very thermally conductive and is there to help with temperature but it is also quite firm and could also be affecting the amount of heat that reaches the memory foam which would firm up the memory foam as well. While the gel itself isnt likely to soften the memory foam will.I have no explanation for why yours may be firmer than your wifes but the only two ways I know that would soften the memory foam would be increasing the temperature or time . You could also try walking or crawling on it for a few minutes each night for a while to speed up the time it takes to soften.If you offer her some incentive maybe your wife will switch pillows PhoenixResearching for a mattress?
