  Are you talking about decorative pillows? I just bought some covers and now I’m having a brain fog…I think the size I bought was the “European” which are a perfect square, I think 20×20. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

  But when I did a search all I found was 20 x 20 for the square pillows.

  When my covers came in my 20 x 20 pillow seemed too small for them.

What Size Insert Should I Get For My Pillow Covers

For a full and plump look, choose an insert 2″ larger than the size of the pillow cover.

• For example: if you purchase a pillow cover that’s 20×20, purchase a pillow insert measuring 22×22.

For lumbars, we typically recommend purchasing an insert the same size as the pillow cover to help prevent overstuffing.

Types of Inserts:

Feather & Down Down fills are typically best as theyre all around loftier, and can be fluffed overtime to maintain their shape and volume. Tip: The more down content there is in the feather/down ratio, the better!

Synthetic Spun Polyester Think craft store inserts. Synthetic fiberfill is generally a lesser quality insert as they flatten, lose their shape, and become lumpy overtime. I almost never use them, except for in these tufted pillows! In this case, the synthetic insert stayed in place and proportional in the pillow better than down would have.

Down Alternative Though down alternative is technically still polyester fill, its composition is such that it mimics downs lofty clusters, making it a great down stand-in for anyone with down allergies. Crate & Barrel has a good down alternative pillow option.

Outdoor Usually filled with water & mildew resistant acrylic or polyester fibers to hold up to the elements.

It can be a confusing world, with sizing nuances from every manufacturer, knowing what to size up on, how much, etc. I’m so excited to give you my tried and true recommendations!

SIZE MATTERS

The one thing you ALWAYS want to do, is size UP on your insert size. Which means that whatever size your pillow cover is, you need your insert to be larger than it! As a general rule, the smaller the size of your pillow cover, the less you have to size up on your insert. And, the larger the size of your pillow cover, the more you are going to want to size up.

FILLING OUT THE COVER

Once you’ve found the perfectly sized insert, you want to make sure that you are putting it into your pillow cover properly. Otherwise, it is not going to matter how good your insert is!!
