Which Type Of Mattress Is Best For Body

Hybrid And Innerspring Mattresses

Best Sleeping Position and Mattress for Your Body Type

Both hybrid and innerspring mattresses have coil support cores, and some manufacturers use these terms interchangeably. However, they have two distinct designs. On top of the coil core, hybrids often have comfort systems that incorporate foam, fiber, wool, or latex to enhance performance and target different needs. Traditional innerspring mattresses may provide extra cushioning by adding microcoils, pillow-tops, or Euro-tops.

Exact specifications between coil gauges and styles vary by manufacturer, but all hybrids and innersprings share some similar characteristics. Coils in the support core have space between them. This allows air to circulate within the mattress and prevents heat retention. The coils also provide a responsive surface that prevents sleepers from sinking too deeply into the mattress. Hybrid mattresses typically use pocketed coils that are individually wrapped and move independently of one another, resulting in less motion transfer.

Innerspring mattresses often provide robust support, though they can lack cushioning. While this may be advantageous for some back and stomach sleepers, side sleepers may want to consider if an innerspring model is plush enough to prevent pressure points before committing to a purchase.

Temperature Regulation And Cooling

The temperature of your bed can make a huge difference in the quality of your sleep. If youre too warm, you might wake up sweating or have trouble staying asleep.

Cooling mattresses have special features designed to help keep you cool as you sleep, including:

  • air cell or open-cell foam
  • mattress covers made from phase-changing, moisture-wicking, or stay-cool fabrics

Customer reviews can help provide a more accurate picture of whether the cooling features mentioned in the mattress description really work.

How Do I Unbox My Mattress In A Box

The easiest way to handle unboxing is to move the box to the room you’re going to keep the mattress and unbox it there. Once you’ve got the box in the room, remove the box. Inside, you’ll find a rolled-up, compressed mattress that’s been vacuum-sealed. Carefully remove the wrap and it will immediately begin to decompress and swell to it’s full size. It’s a bit magical to watch it swell, honestly. Fully decompressing can take up to 48 hours, but it will be mattress sized within a few hours.

How did the delivery and setup go? Multiple friends had to help with transporting the old mattress out of my apartment and the new mattress parts up four flights of stairs. I came home one day and saw three huge boxeswhich contained various parts to the mattressblocking the narrow hallway to my walk-up.

The first box contained a top and bottom cover, the latter with which we laid down on my bed frame. The second box contained three large Aircore blocks, which looked like giant plastic sponges. They felt very hard, and we werent sure how it would be possible to sleep on them, though we laid them next to each other on top of the bottom cover. The third box contained two plush layers, both of which I piled onto the Aircore blocks. Finally, we put the outer layer on top and zipped it together with the bottom layer to create the mattress!

What Firmness Do You Need

The Best Type of Mattress is a Latex Mattress (And Not Synthetic Latex)

Since weve already started to discuss firmness, I thought we might as well dedicate an entire section to the measure. Put simply, firmness refers to how hard or soft a mattress feels. While it might seem like a simple question to answer, determining a beds firmness can actually be quite tricky. Thats because the feel and firmness of a mattress depends on your own personal definitions for soft, medium, and firm as well as your specific body type, weight, and size.

This conversation can get further complicated by the fact that many consumers confuse support with firmness. A supportive mattress is one that sets the spine in an even line without creating pressure points and can be achieved on a soft, medium-firm, or firm mattress. Firmness refers only to the actual feel of the bed. Long story short, you can find a supportive mattress all across the firmness spectrum.

With this in mind, the average preferred firmness level for sleepers falls between the 4-7 out of 10 range. As we discussed above, certain sleepers will either want to dip into the lower end of that range or the higher end, depending on their preferred sleeping positions.

How To Choose The Right Mattress Size

One golden rule for choosing the right size of mattress is to make sure it’s 10cm longer than the tallest person sleeping on it. Width-wise, if you’re sharing a bed, you and your partner should be able to put your hands under your head without your elbows touching.

If you sleep alone, you’ll have the right size mattress if you can put your hands under your head without touching the edges. So measure that distance and as long as you choose a mattress wider than that, you’re good.

Most options listed in our best mattress guide are available in twin, twin XL, full, queen, king and Cal king sizes. Some come in split options too, which enable you to choose a different mattress firmness to your partner. You can also find mattresses with a different level of firmness on each side.

How did the delivery go? My experience with Purple was 100% positive, and I never felt like I was left hanging or in the dark. When the delivery day rolled around, the mattress was brought to our front door in a long vinyl tube, and my husband and I dragged it up the stairs together. It was heavy, but the tube had handles attached to each end that made the job easier.

What was the setup like? The mattress comes with a little paper card explaining the best way to unfurl it, which eased any concerns I had about un-packaging a heavy item the wrong way. I cut the vinyl tube open, removed the plastic wrap, and pulled the mattress onto our bed frame. I was surprised, given the heaviness of the mattress in the tube, that I was able to do this relatively easily without help. It took a few minutes for it to settle, but then it was good to go.

How firm is the mattress? Not firm at all, but it is a really surprising and effective blend of soft and supportive. In fact, the first time I sat on it, I was shocked at how squishy it felt. My toddler son even hopped on with me and immediately said, Bouncy! But then, when I lay down, I was surprised againI wasnt sinking into it the way I expected I would instead, I felt buoyant.

Would you recommend this mattress to a friend? Yes! I would recommend it most highly to someone who prefers a softer mattress and who sleeps hot.

How To Choose The Right Mattress Firmness

10 Best mattress for back pain in India (2022)

Medium firm is the most popular mattress choice – that’s why most flagship mattresses fall within a range of 5-7 on the firmness scale .

However, mattresses are subjective. Firmness and comfort depend on a wide range of factors including your weight, height, sleeping style and whether you experience any pain, such as in your back or hips. So one person’s experience of a mattress is likely to be different to that of another person.

That’s why we use a range of different people to test our mattresses – and it’s also why we look through thousands of user reviews. Keep this in mind when noting our ‘firmness gauge’, which ranges from 1 to 10, as you may find a mattress to be slightly softer or firmer than we found it.

Nevertheless, there is some broad advice for deciding which level of mattress firmness you might be best-suited to… 1. Consider your sleeping position Back sleepers often benefit from a medium-firm mattress. This provides neutral spine alignment while supporting the hips and shoulders. If a mattress is too soft, back sleepers may find their spine forming an uncomfortable ‘U’ shape, creating strain. Too firm and the natural ‘S’ curve of your spine won’t be supported.

Combination sleepers should choose according to their dominant sleep position . If you don’t have one, a medium firm mattress will dish out the best support and comfort across most positions.

Best Mattress For Taller Sleepers

Its no fun to be a tall person on a too-small mattress. You may have your neck at an awkward angle or your feet dangling over the end. Choosing a large mattress size will ensure you have plenty of room to sleep comfortably.

A twin or full mattress may feel too small for single sleepers who are over 6 feet tall, with both measuring 75 inches long. A twin XL or full XL mattress has an extra 5 inches of length, which can keep a tall sleeper from feeling cramped. Queen and king mattresses are also 80 inches long, perfect for single sleepers who want some extra space or couples sharing a bed.

For maximum legroom, a tall sleeper might want to consider a California king size mattress. Cal king beds are 6 feet wide and 7 feet long, so the mattress can comfortably fit two tall people for a good nights sleep.

All of our Amerisleep mattresses are available in twin XL, queen, king, and California king sizes.

  • Side, combo, and back sleepers

As a tall person, it may be difficult to find a bed that accommodates both your height and your sleeping position. The Amerisleep AS3 is one of the best mattresses for tall people, not only because of its wide range of sizes but also its versatile feel suited for all types of people.

The AS3 is 12 inches thick with a medium feel, which works well for side and combo sleepers, couples, and yes, tall individuals. Under the AS3s plush knit cover is:

  • 3 inches of Bio-Pur®
  • 2 inches of Affinity foam
  • 7 inches of Bio-Core® foam

Best Mattress For Heavy Person

A mattress for a heavy person is a mattress that is designed to support a person who weighs more than the average person. There are many different types of mattresses for heavy people, but they all have one thing in common: they are built to last.

Many mattresses for heavy people are made with heavier-duty materials and construction, so they can support a heavier weight without sagging or breaking down over time. If you are a heavy person, it is important to find a mattress that will support your weight and keep you comfortable.

What Are The Best Mattresses For Side Sleepers

The best mattresses for side sleepers are those that fall on the soft to middle of the firmness scale — medium-soft to medium. You need a mattress that has enough give to alleviate pressure on your shoulders and hips, but not so much that you sink into it. It’s important to keep your spine aligned when you’re sleeping on your side, since that’s what ensures that you’ll sleep comfortably and wake up pain-free.

How Old Is Your Mattress

How to Buy the Right Mattress for Your Body Type

This is the very first question you need to answer. Why? Well, the age of your mattress can play a big role in determining whether or not you need a new one. As a general rule of thumb, youll want to start thinking about getting a new bed if youve had your old one for over 8 years. This isnt a set standard by any means, but is usually a good benchmark for checking in with your mattress and figuring out whether its still doing its job re: Lulling you to sleep!

For a quick primer on the typical expiration dates for different mattress materials, check out the graphic below:

While these numbers are helpful in contextualizing the lifespan of your mattress, the best way to determine whether or not its time to switch things up is to listen to your body. Are you waking up with new pains in the morning? Do you have trouble finding a comfortable position at night? Have you noticed any new dips in your mattress that cant be fixed by rotating it regularly? If you answered yes to any of these questions, it may be time to bid adieu to your bed.
