How Can I Make My Nectar Mattress Expand Faster
Place your mattress in a warm area of the house. The majority of memory foam responds well to warm temperatures because heat makes the foam more elastic and flexible. For mattresses purchased during the cooler months, use a space heater in the same room as the mattress to assist in its rapid expansion after purchase.
What Is A Boxed Mattress
A boxed mattress is usually a foam mattress that has been vacuum packed and rolled to save on storage and delivery space. They have been marketed as NextGen and given different fancy covers. However, in reality, all of these mattresses are variations of the basic memory foam layered mattress. There are a few exceptions such as Herdy but in effect, they are layers of foam, glued together then crushed & rolled to fit into a box. At John Ryan, we dont sell any rolled mattresses. Our mattresses wouldnt fit and we wouldnt subject them to the damages of being rolled and crushed. We did some tests when rolled mattresses entered the market, more on that later.
Boxed mattress brands you may see online:
The mattress enters a big roller which crushes the air out of the foam reducing its size drastically, putting it under stress it is then sealed in a bag, usually heat sealed, and then boxed. It means that a normally large sized mattress can be reduced to fit more on a lorry and make delivery easier for the customer.
However, these mattresses are under great stress when in this position. They want to return to their regular shape and are constrained. Foam can tear, springs can deform and fabric can become stretched and rippled when you unroll them.
Risks Of Not Waiting To Sleep On A Memory Foam Mattress
The manufacturer will tell you there are risks in not waiting. Most notable of the issues are the smell and discomfort. Are they true risks? You can decide.
In reality, sleeping on the mattress or at least using it may help speed up the expansion process. The memory foam needs activation. This occurs with regular movement and body heat, both of which you provide when sleeping on the mattress.
How do you clean a memory foam mattress?
You can then lightly spray the area with either laundry detergent and water or water and vinegar . Let it sit for only a few minutes and then blot it up, taking the stain with you.

Which Mattress Type Takes Longer To Expand
Different types of mattresses are more or less prone to having saggy corners after removing them from the box.
Lets take a look:
- Innerspring mattress. This mattress typically doesnt have many foam layers, so once you remove it from the box and rip the vacuum seal, it expands pretty quickly. Plus, its coil block is typically reinforced on the edges, preventing sagging and ensuring good edge support.
- Hybrid mattress. A hybrid mattress also has coils, and sometimes its more than one layer, so it tends to expand pretty well. Additionally, hybrids are thicker, and extra thickness creates more resistance in the compressed state, which also helps with expansion.
- Latex mattress. Latex mattresses have a naturally spongy texture, and once theyre released from the box, they quickly spring back in shape. Softer latex might need a bit more time to expand, but overall, its uncommon for a new latex mattress to sag.
- Memory foam mattress. Modern memory foam mattresses need from 6 to 24 hours to expand appropriately. However, cheaper mattresses or models made of traditional viscous memory foam might take longer than that or initially come with saggy corners. So if you purchase such a mattress, this is one of the possible risks.
Provide Proper Air Circulation And Ventilation
Active air circulation and ventilation will help your mattress expand faster.
If youve set up your mattress in a stuffy room, dont worry.
You can create air circulation by turning on a fan or two.
Bonus Tip: Fan heaters might seem like the ideal combo, but be careful.
Make sure the heat is set to low, and again, theyre set up away from the mattress.

Keep It In Cozy Environment
The technology behind memory foam mattresses is a simple one. Once we apply pressure and our warm body temperature, we transmit our natural heat on the mattress and it changes its shape to conform to our body. If the mattress youre shopping for is cheap, it will likely heat up a lot and make you sweat in the night, which often feels disruptive to your sleep.
Your new memory foam mattress likely hasnt received enough heat to warm up yet. Thats why you must ensure that your room is either warm enough or move it to some other room where it can absorb heat and get the heat that it needs to get warmer.

- Always make sure that the room where the mattress is located has a temperature of at least 68 degrees Fahrenheit. However, it would be even better if the temperature was higher, up to 75 degrees.
- If your bedroom is too cold, you can place the mattress in your warmest room in the apartment until it fully expands.
- Lastly, if you notice that it started expanding due to heat, you can lay on it and help it warm up by sharing your body temperature to help it expand.

What Is Not Letting Memory A Foam Mattress Inflate Properly
Take a look at the manufacturers directions once again. Make sure that you waited enough it may take more time for some types of mattresses. The reason may be in the low temperature warm up your bedroom up to 68° F. Slower inflation may also be explained by a soft surface, so consider putting your mattress on the hard floor.
How Firm Is A Casper Mattress
From the point of view of a person with a bad back, I was keen to have a mattress that had support. How firm could a memory foam based mattress be? The answer was quite surprising. After the first few nights of sleeping on the Casper, we got used to the way it felt. The Memory foam layer conforms to your back, while the lower layers help support. For the first time in a long time, I had an undisturbed night sleep. When lying on my sides the foam absorbed the pressure of my hips.
We felt it wasnt too firm to be comfortable, but surprisingly firmer that youd expect from a foam based mattress that came rolled up in a tiny box!

Sleep On The Mattress For A Week
If youve seen some minor improvement after step 3, then sleeping on the mattress for a few days or a week might do the trick.
Because by spending a full night on the mattress, youre allowing it to adjust to your body heat and weight for a prolonged period which may encourage full expansion.
It can take memory foam mattresses up to a month or more under normal conditions to begin to feel comfortable as it conforms to your sleeping style.
At this point, you may no longer care that your mattress isnt fully expanded and you are comfortable sleeping on it.
How Do I Know If My Nectar Mattress Is Fully Expanded
When your mattress reaches 11 inches in length, it has fully expanded and is ready to be used again. After you unpack your mattress, youll find that it begins to deflate nearly immediately. This is normal. Its critical not to fall asleep on it until youve measured its thickness to at least eleven inches in thickness.

Will Sleeping On A Memory Foam Mattress The First Night Inhibit Expansion
Sleeping on your new memory foam mattress the first night shouldnt damage it or inhibit expansion if youve allowed a few hours from the time of unboxing.
On the contrary, exposure to your body heat and weight may help to break the mattress in.
However, if the manufacturer says that you shouldnt sleep on your memory foam mattress the first night or within a certain time period then Id advise sticking to the rules so that you dont risk damage and/or end up voiding the warranty.
Thats why I said earlier that you should check the warranty/return policy BEFORE following the steps above.
How Long Does It Take For A Mattress To Expand
After you have just bought that memory foam mattress that promises an awesome experience for your nap time, the question ringing in your mind is how long does it take for a mattress to expand?
This is especially the case if you have shipped your mattress over a long distance. The common companies that ship mattresses, deliver compressed mattresses at your front door. The mattress is mechanically compressed and sealed in a vacuum for them to be compact and shipped to your destination. Yes, for logistics purposes, companies may also deliver vacuum sealed mattresses and even as rolled-up mattresses-for any type of mattress, like the memory foam and the latex type mattresses.
For such types of mattresses, once you receive them, you should wait until the whole expansion process is completed before you start using the mattress. You will receive the shipment and open it up again but the mattress wont be in a shape or form you can put on a bed. After the expansion mattress, the mattress will retain its shape and this will not take less than 24 hours.
While there is not an exact period that it will take the mattress to expand completely, you can just wait for 24 hours. After the 24 hours, you can notice whether the mattress has retained its appropriate size and shape by just looking at it. The wait will be worth it for you to enjoy the experience you get from the mattress whether you are sleeping on it during the day or at night after a long exhausting day at work.

Its Expanded Now What
Now that your mattress or pillow has fully expanded and you decide its exactly the sleeping experience you need, now what? Its important to properly take care of your memory foam item to keep its longevity.
When it comes to memory foam mattresses they need a sturdy foundation. A bed frame with either a solid flat surface or a slatted base make for a good foundation for a memory foam mattress. Platform beds are a good choice as long as the slats are less than three inches apart to prevent the foam material from dipping.
Invest in a mattress protector to help your mattress keep its longevity. Mattresses are giant sponges that soak up a lot sweat, dead skin, and lots of other dirt and juices that lay dormant on your mattress, like nasty spills. A mattress protector is a little different from a mattress topper in that the mattress topper is designed to make the mattress more comfortable.
If your mattress does not have a removable, machine-washable cover, it will need to be spot cleaned with room temperature water mixed with mild detergent. Its a good idea to vacuum the mattress at least once a month to remove loose debris and hair fibers. This applies to pillows as well.
What Happens If You Use Your Mattress Too Soon Will Memory Foam Inflate
Actually, nothing horrible will happen if you do it. Yes, it is likely to inflate. This is the term set by manufacturers to make sure that a mattress takes on its full shape. Usually, it doesnt take this long to inflate in most cases, 90% of the volume is gained during the first 7 hours, but if you use it sooner, you will void the warranty, which is no good. Why risk? We recommend you follow the manufacturers directions.

New versions of memory foam mattresses will allow you to sleep, walk, and jump on them after a complete unpacking. And that actually helps with decompression.
So What Happens If You Sleep On A Memory Foam Mattress Before 24 Hours
Memory foam is a product that has given rise to the bed in a box phenomenon. Most manufacturers boast about their bed in a box offers. It is completely possible to compress, roll, and even fold a memory foam mattress and place it in a box. No matter what size your mattress is, full size, twin XL, or king, it will fit in a box.
It is recommended to wait 24-48 hours before sleeping on a new, memory foam mattress. It is up to the consumer whether to wait or not. Defects will not be as obvious before the expansion process has been completed, but expansion should not slow down because you slept on your new memory foam mattress.
The short and simple answer is nothing. Your new mattress may not feel exceptional the first night. As the expansion process continues, it will only get better. Once 24 hours have passed, you should have a new bed with what you will call the best mattress youve ever owned.
