In our experience, the Puffy mattress is close to a 7/10, just firmer-than-average the comfort layer is soft, but it is also quite thin. Lying on the Puffy, we are pressing through the comfort layer and mostly feeling the transition and support layers. Again, a mattresss firmness does depend on the weight of the user but, for us, the mattress was firmer-than-average.

Very Good Pressure Relief

The biggest selling point of the Puffy Original is the pressure relief that it provides thanks to the adaptive gel memory foam top layer.

I tested this by lying in the Puffy Original mattress in the front, back, and side sleeping positions and waiting to see how long it took for me to feel enough pressure that I needed to turn over.

I was able to stay in the back sleeping position the longest, and then it was a split between the front and side sleeping positions.

However, I have painful arthritic shoulders which makes the side and stomach sleeping positions generally uncomfortable in most mattresses although the Puffy Original is definitely one of the more comfortable mattresses that Ive tested in this regard.

But if maximum pressure relief is your priority, then I highly recommend the Puffy Lux Hybrid because this has the best pressure relief of any mattress that Ive ever tested.

The arthritic pain in my shoulders feels like its melting away when I sleep in the Puffy Lux Hybrid.

How Weight Plays A Factor

Average Weight

People within this weight range enjoy a comfortable back sleeping experience. Their hips are not too heavy, so they sink moderately, and the mattress can handle the weight and provide the needed support.

Side sleeping within this weight range is also comfortable, considering that the body will get just enough pressure to fit best on the mattress. As the weight nears 230 lbs, you might begin to experience some pressure and have discomfort.

Stomach sleeping is not comfortable within this weight range, and so you might need a firmer mattress.

Heavy Weight

The heavier you are, the harder it would be to achieve comfort. However, back sleepers with a weight slightly above 230lbs should sleep comfortably. Mattresses with coils may work better for much heavier bodies.
