What Height Is Right For Your Bed
The perfect bed height depends on the patient and their care and treatment needs. It is important to emphasize that you should consider the total height of the bed, including the height of the mattress. A mattress designed for a home hospital bed adds six to seven inches to the total height. A consumer-grade mattress can add much more.
How Are Bed Frame Dimensions Measured
Bed frames are available to fit king, queen, double or twin size mattresses. The correct way to measure bed frame dimensions is by using a measuring tape to measure the length and width of the mattress area. The length is measured from the top center edge to the bottom center edge and the width is measured from the far left center edge to the far right center edge of the mattress.
Assembling a bed frame is a fairly simple process. It starts by connecting the side frame rails to the headboard and floorboard of the bed frame. These rails should be connected on both sides of the bed creating a rectangular pattern for the mattress to sit into. Both side rails are also connected with middle board rails that keep the mattress from sagging in the center.
There are several types of bed frames to choose from. Most frames are made of wood or steel and come in many designs and colors. It is important that the bed frame dimensions match the size of the mattress. This will ensure the mattress fits easily into the bed frame area after it is installed.
Is Twin Xl The Same As Full
Although a twin XL is 15 inches narrower than a full, itâs 5 inches longer. Twin XL beds usually canât comfortably accommodate more than one person, but they are an ideal choice for a single sleeper thatâs too tall for a traditional size bed. Twin XL beds are great for small, narrow bedrooms where thereâs not a lot of floor space, and are often the bed of choice for college dorm rooms and apartments.

Does The Patient Require Caregiver Treatment On The Bed
Caregivers should not have to bend, stoop, or reach when providing treatment, especially if they have to move the patient or otherwise exert themselves. A bed at the wrong height often results in caregiver back and muscle injuries. The correct height depends on the caregiver, but occupational health professionals recommend hip height or slightly higher.
Other Measurements To Consider
If youre looking to upgrade to the best mattress and are measuring your current mattress for that purpose, you may want to also measure your doorways and the dimensions of your hallways before you purchase the bed. Naturally, a mattress is no good if you cant fit it into your bedroom.
However, this is less of an issue than it once was thanks to mattresses in a box, which are tucked into portable boxes and can be carried with relative ease into any room.
Its also vital to understand what mattress foundation size you have. If you do not know for certain, you can measure it the way you would a mattress.
On a related note, while mattress sizes are relatively standardized, many matching accessories are not. For example, blankets, comforters and duvets for the same mattress size can have widely different measurements. All of them should be fairly larger than the mattress to let part of the bedding drape over the side, but how much larger it will be depends on the manufacturer.

How Do You Measure A Mattress
To determine the dimensions of a mattress, measure it from head to foot for the length and from side to side for the width. It may be helpful to measure the depth of the mattress as well, from the bottom where it rests on the box spring to the top. You will want to use a tape measure and record these three dimensions, in inches, and repeat if necessary if you use a foundation. Itâs important to measure your mattress and box spring before buying an encasement or bed. Now that you know all about the sizes and dimensions of different beds, you should be able to make an informed decision regarding your next mattress. Once you have your sizing figured out, consider an adjustable bed frame for the ultimate comfort or some soft, breathable bedding to outfit your new investment!
Is A Full Size Bed Big Enough For Two
The short answer: no. Full size mattress dimensions permit a couple who share a bed about 27 inches of space each, so unless youre planning on cozying up snugly through the night, this is likely going to be an uncomfortable sleeping experience in the long run. There is enough space if youre sharing your bed with a smaller sleep partner, like your child or a pet.

What Are Low Headboards And What Is The Size Of A Low Headboard
As the name implies, low headboards are headboards which are shorter in height than standard headboards. Some low headboards may also be adjustable. A low headboard for a twin size bed can have a height of up to 12 inches above the mattress. But this height can vary depending on the size of the bed. As a general rule, when your pillows are leaning against a low headboard, only a few inches of the headboard will appear above the pillows.
The advantage of using a low headboard is that it can make your room look more spacious and minimalistic as compared to using a tall headboard. Low headboards are also ideal if you want to hang a painting or some other wall décor above your bed. Low headboards look great in guest bed rooms.

How To Measure A Mattress For A Mattress Cover
Most people know what size bed they have. Well, that is most people. Some still get hung up on the difference between a King and a Cal King. What really tricks people up is the depth of the mattress. Is it a pillow top? Do I need a deep or extra deep cover? In order to answer these questions, you’ve got to know how to measure a mattress for a mattress cover.
Standard Mattress Sizes
In the United States, the length and width of mattresses are standard. That’s a good thing. To determine your standard size, use the following chart.
|Mattress Size by Name
|39 x 80
Notice these sizes only refer to the length and width. Now where it gets tricky is the depth. A standard mattress is 8 to 9 inches deep. But who has a standard mattress these days?
How to Accurately Measure the Mattress Depth
Depth becomes important if you have a mattress that is larger or smaller than normal. That’s because standard bedding is sewn to accommodate a standard mattress depth .
Pillow top, plush top, and double pillow tops are where it starts to get tricky. The mattress is sewn with a top and bottom edge seam. If you were to measure the distance between these two seams to determine the depth, you would be wrong.
Take a look at this picture and you will see why.

Mattress Height = Encasing Depth
Although the overall sizes listed above may be fairly typical, the biggest difference will be in the height of the mattress. Many mattresses are now made with a pillow top, a foam top or other bedding toppers that add to the overall height of the mattress. Its important to measure the full height of the mattress, including these toppers, since the encasing must zip around the whole area.
Please note that the encasings depth must fit the height of the mattress plus the toppers.
Allergy Guardian encasings are made to suit typical mattress heights and are available in 4 depths: 9 depth, 12 depth, 15 depth and 18 depth .
To measure your mattress height, follow these steps:
- Place a hard edge ruler at the lower seam of the mattress.
- Measure to the highest point of the mattress.
- Include the full height of the pillow top, foam topper, mattress pad or other mattress topper.
- Order your encasing to fit the full height of the mattress and topper. If in doubt, order a deeper size to ensure fit.
- Make sure that you dont press on the top of the mattress while measuring, which can reduce the height measurement.
- Our best advice: Measure Twice, and Make the Right Choice Once!

Are There Standard Measurements For Futons And Daybeds
Typical bi-fold and tri-fold futons come in standard sizes ranging from twin to queen. Occasionally, you might find an outlier that doesnt fit the standard size range. But most of the time, a futon will say what standard size it is. In addition, most futons will come with their own mattresses, so you likely wont have to worry about measuring them.
Daybeds are similar to futons in the sense that they double as a sofa and are also meant to accommodate sleepers. However, daybeds dont fold. Most of the time, they have an uncushioned wooden or metal back and arms with a twin mattress for the seat. Some daybeds may be full size as well. But this makes them more difficult to sit on like a sofa.
What Are The Dimensions Of A King
Whether you are moving to a new place, rearranging your current home or upgrading your mattress, it will save you time and energy to identify exactly how much space you have before moving large items. As you plan the logistics of your bedroom, keep in mind not only the dimension of the frame itself but also the dimensions of the furniture that will be adjacent to your bed. This may include nightstands, dressers and bookshelves. Additionally, plan enough room for you and others to walk, dress, vacuum and do other daily tasks without knocking knees, toes and ankles against the sharp corners of the structure. It is worth your time and sanity to thoroughly measure both the room and the heavy furniture before making a large purchase and moving in.
First, start by measuring the empty room. Use a tape measure with a length of at least 10 feet. Your room will typically be larger than 10 feet across, so you may need a longer tape measure, but 10 feet will cover the footprint of the structure and enough space for you to walk and crawl comfortably. The dimensions of a king-size bed are generally 76 inches wide and 80 inches long. Consider drawing a quick pencil sketch on white paper or graph paper as a reference. Then, double-check the specs. They should be similar to the dimensions above unless you have a California king, which measures closer to 72 inches wide and 84 inches long. Plan accordingly.

Can You Make Two Twin Beds Into A King
Pushing two twin size mattresses will leave you with a mattress that is five inches shorter than a King. Twin XL mattresses will work for this purpose since theyre just as long as a standard king.
You may wish to push two twin size mattresses together for a guest bedroom, or if you and your partner like to sleep in different positions at night.
How Do You Measure A Mattress For A Fitted Sheet
Once your mattress is completely bare of bedding, use a tape measure or flexible ruler to measure from the widest point of the mattress on its sides. After you obtain the measurements for its length and width, measure the mattresss depth to get an idea of how deep a pocket your fitted sheets will need.
Do you have a mattress topper? You will have to add its depth to the mattresss height since the fitted sheet will slip over both the topper and mattress.

How High Should A Mattress Be
While most mattresses require a little bit of elevation to ensure air circulation and proper breathing, Puffy mattresses have been engineered to provide cool comfort even without a bed frame.
On average, most mattresses should be anywhere between 11 to 24 inches off the ground and range from 10 to 14 inches in thickness. Make sure youre able to get on and off your bed with ease, so mornings arent harder than they should be!
Twin Vs Single Mattress: Whats The Difference
A single mattress and a twin mattress are one and the same â both have the dimensions of 38 inches by 75 inches. These, along with the twin XL , are designed to fit one person. The term âtwinâ came about because these mattresses were often placed two to a room, either in childrenâs rooms, hotels, or other rooms that are meant to be shared by more than one person.
