Avocado Latex Vs Avocado Green
When comparing the Avocado Green mattress to the latex model, it all comes down to what youre looking for from your bed. The Avocado Green mattress is a hybrid latex/innerspring bed, so you get the best of both worlds.
The Avocado Latex mattress, on the other hand, is Avocados first all-foam bed. Its made from all-natural latex, which has cooling and responsive properties. All-foam beds tend to be extremely comfortable and cradle your body. However, if you weigh more than 250 pounds, we dont recommend an all-foam bed. You likely wouldnt get the support you need from a mattress without coils.
Avocado Mattress Review Verdict
The Avocado mattress has solid value if you care about eco-friendly materials and a safe manufacturing processes. For back, stomach and combination sleepers, Avocado is going to be a great bed. It will be even better if you want a responsive, naturally cooler mattress. You can point out the only negatives with this bed are personal preferences that some Avocado customer reviews will mention. Its not for everyone, but theres a considerable subset of people who will love the Avocado mattress.

Avocado Mattress Review Breakdown
The Avocado Green and Vegan mattresses are nearly identical in construction. Both hybrid models are 11 inches thick and fall at a 7 on the firmness scale, making them excellent options for individuals seeking a firmer-than-average mattress. Both variations contain a strong support core made from up to 1,414 8-inch pocketed coils and an inch of firm, GOLS-certified Dunlop latex. The pocketed coils are zoned to provide additional support for the spine, neck, and other critical areas, as well as a softer feel towards the mattress bottom and sides.
Both models also feature a 2-inch comfort layer made from sustainably sourced, GOLS-certified Dunlop latex. This layer allows air to circulate, providing additional temperature control and preventing sleepers from sinking into the support core.
The Avocado Green and Vegan differ only in the materials used for each models respective cover. Each cover features hundreds of hand-tufted rosettes, which use ribbons to bind the mattress layers together, creating a sturdy product without using chemical solvents or toxic adhesives. Avocado also avoids using chemical flame retardants in its Green cover, relying instead on naturally fire-resistant, GOTS certified organic wool from the companys own farm. While the Avocado Vegan cover does not contain wool, it is made from USDA certified organic cotton batting, which adheres to federal flammability standards.

Why Choose Avocado Mattress
There are many reasons why you might choose Avocado mattresses over other brands. The most obvious reason is the companys commitment to using only certified organic materials. This means that the mattress is free of harmful chemicals and toxins, which can be found in many conventional mattresses. In addition, the pressure-point system provides excellent back support and helps to prolong the life of the mattress. Finally, the mattress is made in the USA, which is important to many consumers who want to support domestic businesses.
Heavier People: Firmness Estimate And Suitable Positions
The Avocado mattress will feel slightly softer to larger individuals since theyll sink into the top layers a little more than others.
Folks with more weight will likely feel the standard Avocado mattress belongs in the 7 to 8 range on the firmness scale. Accordingly, the bed is still going to be best for folks in larger bodies who tend to favor their back or stomach.
If youre a person of size and you sleep on your side, wed strongly urge you to consider upgrading to the pillow top Avocado mattress. We think people with more weight will find the pillow top model lands around a 5 to 6 on the firmness scale, making it a viable option for side sleepers.
With this particular model, individuals in larger bodies will find the wool and latex foam combination form a forgiving surface for their hips and shoulders.

How Did We Test The Avocado Green Mattress
We tested the Avocado Green Mattress at home and in our Cambridge labs.
Im the sleep specialist here at Reviewed and have tested my share of mattresses. My main test is just what a regular person would dosleeping on it for 30 days. But thats where the similarities end: I also test mattresses for motion transfer using a Newtons cradle balanced on the mattress, I consider the edge support and whether the mattress would be easy to fall off of in the night, and more.
After a monthlong stint in my apartment, the mattress is sent to our lab in Cambridge, Massachusetts. There, our senior scientist, Julia MacDougall, tests mattresses for heat retention and performs additional motion transfer and responsiveness tests, like dropping a bowling ball in the center of the mattress. These tests provide standardized data on how mattresses dissipate or hold onto heat and capture information about how a mattress responds to movement that may be difficult to assess in subjective, personal tests.

Is The Avocado Eco Organic Mattress Worth It
Im beyond impressed by Avocados commitment to organic materials and the certifications and recognitions theyve received. Avocado has managed to create a mattress that’s made from organic materials and sourced ethically and sustainably at a relatively affordable price point, expanding the possibilities of who can afford their mattress. This is made possible to Avocado’s vertical integration, meaning they have complete ownership of their production from the sheep and latex farms to where the mattress is assembled.
This is all made even better by the fact that this mattress is incredibly comfortable and that I had a remarkable sleep experience while testing it out. My body didnt have to adjust to sleeping on the mattress. My body loved this mattress. It was a comfortable, buoyant, and cozy experience all around.
The average motion transfer and side support is not really a concern in my opinion for any buyer. In fact, I found the limited warranty and 100-night sleep trial policy to be more of a drawback. But even then, it isnt enough to sway my final thought: this mattress is well worth the buy, seven times over.
Its so rare to find a good quality mattress, much less one that is completely organic, from an ethical company at an affordable price. Take a chance on the Avocado Eco Organic mattress, and Im sure youll agree that its money well spent.

How Does The Avocado Eco Organic Mattress Compare To The Avocado Green Mattress
We’ve also reviewed the original Avocado Green mattress, which is similar to the Avocado Eco Organic mattress in a lot of ways. Both are made with organic and recycled materials like wool, cotton, latex, and steel coils. It’s when you examine how these materials are assembled that the mattresses differ.
The Avocado Eco Organic mattress is 10 inches in height, whereas the Green mattress is 11-13 inches tall. The Green mattress has significantly more pocketed coils and a 3-5-inch thick layer of latex . The extra latex adds extra cushion while a higher number of individually wrapped coils minimizes motion transfer and offers increased pressure relief.
While I think the increased height of the mattress may sway buyers, the most important thing to consider is the firmness scale and the price. The Eco Organic mattress is a 5 on the firmness scale, while the Green mattress rates at a 7. If you wanted the Green mattress but didn’t want it as firm, you’d have to add the pillow top option for a significant fee.
For those who want a supportive, cozy mattress, the Eco Organic mattress is the way to go. I doubt that you’d be able to notice most of the differences between the two mattresses. Did I mention it’s also $600 cheaper than the Green mattress?! I love a firm mattress, so I understand the appeal of the Green mattress. However, I didn’t find the Eco Organic to be “too soft.” It was bouncy and buoyant, for sure, but very supportive.
How Much Does The Avocado Green Mattress Cost
Mattress dimensions are pretty standard. The different sizes of a mattress only differ in about an inch or so. Where the Avocado mattress stands out is with its 11 thickness profile. The standard mattress thickness is anywhere between 69. Generally, the thickness coincides with weight, so the thicker the bed, the heavier it is.
Also, when a mattress is thicker, it usually has more layers, thicker layers, or more foam, which makes the mattress more comfortable and able to accommodate a greater variety of sleepers. If you purchase the pillow top, the thickness increases to 13, meaning the mattress offers even greater pressure relief and plush cushioning.
If you weigh over 250 lbs, you will definitely want to look for a mattress that is on the thicker side for added support. See our picks on the best mattress for heavy people for mattresses that provide support and comfort.
The Avocado Green mattress is a little heavier than some other bed-in-a-box brands, but with the extra weight comes extra layers of comfort and support. The box your mattress arrives in will vary in weight from 45105 lbs, depending on the size of mattress you buy. This is why we recommend finding some extra help to carry the mattress to whatever room youre setting it up in. Avocado does offer in-home setup and mattress removal at an additional cost, if youre worried about setting up your new mattress.

Construction And Quality Materials
In-home setup isnt the only option that you have when you order. Youll also have the opportunity to add a pillow-top for an additional $240-$500, depending on the size. If you have the money, Id certainly recommend this . The additional 2-inches of 100% natural latex aides in point elasticity and this can be particularly helpful if you require additional pressure relief.
Now, lets delve into the various layers that youll find within the cover of the Avocado mattress.
In the pillow top version we tested, we start with 1oz per-square-foot of 100% natural Joma® New Zealand Wool . This certifies that the wool is free from allergenic dyes, pesticides, chlorinated phenols, heavy metals, formaldehyde, chloro-organic carriers and has a pH thats not harmful to the skin. This natural fiber is breathable and helps transfer heat to regulate a proper sleeping temperature. It also prevents moisture, keeps your mattress smelling fresh, and acts as an all-natural fire barrier.
This is followed by four inches of eco-INSTITUT certified Natural Latex , 100% natural Dunlop Latex. Avocado uses only tree-tapped and sustainable sources in their latex layers. Dunlop offers consistent, stable support, which is valuable for anyone suffering from nerve-related back pain.
