Bed Bath & Beyond, the store where once upon a time every teenager bought their first set of extra-long dorm sheets, has been in the news a lot lately. Stores are shutting down, lawsuits are swirling, and memes are stocking. A breakdown of the turmoil, in brief:
First and foremost: Is the iconic Bed Bath & Beyond on Sixth Avenue shutting down?Its not clear yet but probably not. The retailer announced last week that it was closing 150 stores and laying off 20 percent of its corporate and supply-chain workforce in an effort to turn around its finances. Reuters reports that around 50 to 60 of its stores will close by February in the first wave, and CNBC reports those closures will target lower producing stores, but we dont have much detail beyond that. According to Patch, the Chelsea location re-signed a ten-year lease in 2020, but, as it noted, it wouldnt be the first time a New York City business shuttered shortly after resigning a lease.
And why is this happening? It hasnt been a great decade for the company, but the last couple of years have been particularly acute: After first-quarter sales decreased by 25 percent year over year in 2022, the company fired its CEO, Mark Tritton, who had helmed Bed Bath & Beyond since 2019. The closures and layoffs are estimated to save $250 million in the current fiscal year.

Lindell said he will continue to stand by Trump regardless of any pressure it puts on his businesses.
This was the most corrupt election in the history of the world, he told Yahoo Finance, echoing claims that were disputed by Trumps now-ex attorney general, William Barr.
The CEOs comments on election fraud may make him the subject of a civil lawsuit. Dominion Voting Systems sent Lindell a letter warning of pending litigation tied to his claims that the presidential election was rigged, The New York Times reported on Monday.
Dominion already sued Trump lawyer Sidney Powell earlier this month, accusing her of making wild accusations that the company fixed the election to go Joe Bidens way.
Trump is facing a growing backlash in the business community, with big names recently cutting ties with him, including his longtime bank Deutsche Bank , Canadian e-commerce company Shopify , cloud-based software company Salesforce , and payment processor Stripe.
Speaking to Yahoo Finance, Lindell said he believes these companies cut ties with Trump because they thought that maintaining the connection would hurt their businesses. These businesses are scared because they think if they associate with Donald Trump that theyre going to be attacked just like MyPillow is right now, he said. Theyre afraid. Theyre very afraid for their own livelihood.

Several home goods stores will no longer be selling MyPillow, and controversial CEO Mike Lindell is claiming it’s because of his political views.
Lindell, 59 an ardent supporter of former President Donald Trump, who has faced backlash for echoing the former president’s baseless claims that the election was “stolen,” recently appeared on conservative outlet Right Side Broadcasting Network, where he told host Brian Glenn that he believes retailers are afraid of being “canceled” for partnering with him.
He specifically mentions Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl’s as two major stores that said they will no longer be selling MyPillow products, suggesting that they came to this decision after he was photographed meeting with the president at the White House on January 15 shortly after the pro-Trump Capitol riots on January 6.
“I just got off the phone with Bed Bath & Beyond. They’re dropping MyPillow. Just got off the phone not five minutes ago. Kohl’s, all these different places,” Lindell told Glenn in the episode. “These guys, they’re scared, like Bed Bath & Beyond, they’re scared.”
He added, “They were good partners. In fact, I told them, ‘You guys come back anytime you want.'”
When reached for comment, Lindell told PEOPLE that the companies dropping his products are “all in fear.”

My Pillow’s Ceo Claims Its Politics But The Retailer Says Its Business
Bed Bath & Beyond has disclosed that it has stopped carrying My Pillow products, a brand that made a name for itself over the last decade by saturating the airwaves with TV commercials featuring its founder and CEO, Mike Lindell.
Lindell claims his products are being blacklisted by Bed Bath & Beyond and other retailers because of his strong support for Trump and his public claims that the election of President Biden was fraudulent — a claim for which there has never been any evidence.
Bed Bath & Beyond denies Lindells claim or a political motive. In a statement to Yahoo Finance, the retailer said it was simply a business decision.
As previously announced, we have been rationalizing our assortment to discontinue a number of underperforming items and brands. This includes the MyPillow product line, a Bed Bath & Beyond spokesperson said in a statement. Our decisions are data-driven, customer-inspired, and are delivering substantial growth in our key destination categories.
