Purple Powerbase Adjustable Bed
Instead of a regular bed base you can get a high tech Purple powerbase. It has a remote control and app. The king is a split adjustable bed that requires two twin size Purple mattresses. The massage settings, antigravity and stop snoring buttons are most intriguing to me. Dont sleep flat! Open your airways, help prevent snoring, alleviate back pain/strain by getting a bed that moves so you can get the best sleep of your life.
Note that youll probably want to drop the Powerbase inside of a headboard/bed base that has sides and is more decorative like the ones I linked to above. You can remove the slats and just drop the Powerbase inside or the bed frame.
Powerbase Features:
- Preset positions will lay you down after you fall asleep, wake you up gently, and adjust your partner if their snores are keeping you up.
- Built in massage with 5 settings .
- USB plugs so you can work in bed .
- An anti snoring button that raises your head so you open up your airways and stop the sound.
- Anti gravity button to take the most pressure off your body. If you sleep in a Lazy Boy to keep pressure off your back, this is for you.
- An app to control and a remote control .

Are Box Springs Outdated
Mattresses have come a long way since the days of the traditional innerspring and theres now more choice than ever with memory foam, latex and hybrids leading the way. However, because modern types are not always compatible with box springs, it means this type of support is being used less and less.
Box springs are still an excellent choice when paired with innerspring mattresses though, and many people prefer the feel of them. In short, as long as you have some sort of foundation and its compatible with your bed, thats what matters.
Bed Frames That Do Not Require A Box Spring
Unless the mattress warranty tells otherwise, the answer to the question do you need a box spring? with the following bed frames is NO.
If youre using any of these bed frames, its not necessary to add box spring :
- Solid platform frame. It plays the same role as the base and provides a stable base that makes sure your mattress is not sagging prematurely.
- Platform frame with slats. Different from a solid platform frame, it uses slats to form the base for your mattress.
- Adjustable frame. Its quite evident that box spring would not work together with an adjustable bed frame and would only interfere with its functionality.
- Reinforced metal frame. Reinforced frames add additional support from side to side and make sure that the weight of your mattress is distributed evenly.
Therefore, if while reading this article, you answered the question – do you need a box spring? negatively, these bed frame options are exactly what you need.

Body Alignment
You need to align your back and not disrupt the natural curve of your spine while fully supporting your back. Purple helps do this. If your mattress is too soft youll sink on your hips and shoulders. Box Spring Vs Foundation Vs Platform Bed
Most mattresses require something between the mattress and the floor. While many beds actually function just fine when placed directly on the floor, this restricts airflow and can lead to unsanitary conditions. So, most people will want to use some sort of foundation whether thats a box spring, a foundation, or a platform bed depends on the type of mattress you choose, as well as personal preference.
A box spring is a simple support consisting of a wooden/metal frame, filled with metal coils/springs or a metal grid, and wrapped in fabric. They are primarily used for innerspring mattresses. Typically box springs are designed to sit on top of a bed frame.
A foundation is another type of support system that usually consists of wooden slats or flat solid frames. They function similarly to box springs, but they dont actually contain metal springs. Foundations offer a very firm surface for mattresses to rest on, making them a good choice for foam beds. Most foundations are designed to be used with a bed frame, although some companies offer free-standing versions.
A platform bed combines both a foundation for your bed as well as a frame to keep it off the ground. Most have wooden legs to elevate the frame, while some include storage drawers reaching down to the ground level. Platform beds offer an all-in-one solution, but they can be pricier than other options.

Do I Need To Replace My Old Box Springs When Replacing My Mattress
For reasons we discussed above, it is probably wise to go ahead and buy a new foundation, base or box spring when buying a new mattress. This is the default suggestion youll get from most mattress stores and manufacturers, and this is the right answer for most people. If you replace your box spring when replacing your mattress, there are no doubts about whether your old box spring is a good fit for your new mattress. Its also naturally the most convenient time to replace a mattress foundation since youre already moving mattresses around.
However, as with many of our frequently-asked questions, the real answer to this question is it depends. Honestly assess our guidelines above about when to replace and when not, and you really cant go wrong.
Here is one final thing to consider. Is your new mattress a hybrid, foam, or similar type mattress like Purple or Tempur-Pedic? If so, you need to also be aware of each brands recommendations for mattress foundations. Many manufacturers of non-inner spring mattresses advise against using old-school box springs or foundations with slats or supports that are spaced too far apart. This is because mattresses with foam base layers can squish between these supports, damaging the structure of your new mattress. This is not good for the mattress, and it is not good for your sleep.

Do You Need Box Springs For Platform Beds
Platform beds do not require a box spring, but it won’t hurt if you choose to use one either. Since platform beds sit low to the ground, a box spring is a viable option if you want to make your bed higher.
Another instance in which you may want to consider a box spring for your platform bed is if the platform’s slats are too far apart. In this case, a box spring will prevent your mattress from sagging between the gaps however, a bunkie board may be a more preferable choice, especially for a foam mattress.
What Are Box Springs And Does Your Mattress Need One
ByMillie Fenderpublished 15 October 20
Is a box spring right for your mattress? From Purple to Saatva, here’s what the experts say.
A box spring is a type of mattress foundation that adds height and support to your mattress. It is typically made of a wooden frame filled with springs, coated in fabric. Hence the name box spring – its essentially just a box filled with springs. The main purpose of a box spring is to give your mattress a firm base, which can reduce wear and extend the life of an appropriately paired mattress. This is because the springs act to hold and support the weight of your body when youre sleeping. It also adds valuable height, which makes it easier to get in and out of your bed.
What is typically known as a box spring may not mean what you think it does. Although box springs were once very popular, the term is now far more likely to refer to a regular mattress foundation, which in fact has no springs at all.
The difference between a box spring and a regular mattress foundation lies in the springs themselves. You may have a mattress foundation with slatted wooden panels to support your mattress and your weight when sleeping. A box spring uses springs instead of these wooden panels to support your mattress. These foundations are best used on different mattress types, and the best mattress companies will make it clear which platforms you should buy to best support your mattress.

Does My Purple Mattress Need A Box Spring
Purple mattresses are designed to be slept on without a box spring, though some people do choose to use one with their mattresses.
The main reason people use box springs is for aesthetics they like the way a box spring makes their bed look. Box springs also add height, which can be nice if you have a low bed frame.
However, there are no real benefits to using a box spring with a purple mattress. In fact, using a box spring may actually be harmful to your mattress. When two objects are placed on top of each other, they create pressure points.
This is what happens when you put your mattress on top of a box spring: all of the weight of your body is concentrated in those pressure points. Over time, this can damage your mattress and decrease its lifespan.
Differences In The Purple Models
The biggest difference between Purple Hybrid and the OG Purple mattress is in the construction of the bed. The Original Purple had polyurethane foam and then a 2-inch slab of Hyper-Elastic Polymer as the top layer.
The Purple Hybrid and Purple Hybrid Premier beds swap out the foam for 7.5-inch pocketed coils . The new Purple beds end up being a few inches thicker than the OG Purple mattress as a result.
Also, as you might have guessed by now, the only differences between Purple Hybrid and the Purple Hybrid Premier are the thickness of the top layer, weight of the bed, and the price.
There will be a difference in feel, but that all depends on your weight. The Purple Hybrid has 2 inches of Hyper-Elastic Polymer, while Purple Hybrid Premier has 3 or 4 inches depending on the model you choose.
You can learn more about the beds in our individual reviews, but for the most part, the difference in firmness, feel, and comfort only arise from the differences in thickness of the top layer.
In general, folks over 240 pounds or so should consider the thicker version if you really want a good amount of cushioning from the Hyper-Elastic Polymer.
People who weigh less than 240 pounds will be just fine on the Purple Hybrid or the Original Purple. Having said that, Purple Hybrid will be the firmest of the three since theres less material between you and the coils. The more Hyper-Elastic Polymer, the softer the feel.
