What Youre Going To Need

How to Move a King Size Mattress Up Stairs BY YOURSELF
  • Mattress bags to protect all mattresses and box springs from water, dust and general wear and tear throughout the move.
  • Friends! Youre going to need an extra set of hands to help you bring the mattress, boxspring and frame down the stairs and through the doorways. You may also need help hoisting the bed into your moving truck.
  • Bubble wrap and tape.
  • Moving straps, if you need help lifting.
  • A rented dolly if your bed is especially heavy.
  • A screwdriver or wrench to disassemble a bed.
  • Plastic bag to keep all the beds nuts and bolts safe after disassembling.

How Do You Transport A King Mattress

In the video below they show how to fold, wrap, and transport a foam model. One lady says you can do this with an innerspring model, but do this at your peril. She works for a transport company and is in the business to getr done and she does not own these. So keep that in mind.

They show a couple of methods and options for each so it is worth watching.

Grizzly Adams has a good video on strapping one on a Toyota Prius. He claims to have transported more than one thousand mattresses so he should know what he is doing. This is must-watch TV if you are going to use your toy car as a truck.

The next video shows some dumb-ass driving with the mattress flipped up 90 degrees and he has no idea haha. Thanks for the uploader and great Stevie Ray Vaughan on the stereo.

Another oblivious dumb-ass whos mattress turns into a kite and flew out of the back of the truck. I can call him a dumb-ass because I did the exact same thing. Except it was a one-piece tub with a roof.Heavy as hell and we loaded into the truck with a forklift. But the wind sucked it out and it did a few turns and hit a height of about twenty feet before landing flat on the Trans Canada Highway haha. Do you remember that Fred?

This next video by tattoo blondie shows how to suck the air out of a king-size and wrap it up for protection in $20 of rubber.

How To Move A Mattress Without A Car Or Truck

If you need to move a mattress a significant distance without a car or truck then I strongly suggest that you use a shipping service.

But just to make sure that I wasnt missing anything, I consulted Reddit on the best way to move a mattress without a vehicle, and the best answer was:

Duct tape it on top of 23 cats and leave a trail of Fancy Feast leading to your new apartment.

Can You Move A Full Fish Tank

No, we wouldnt advise it under any circumstances a fragile glass box filled with liquid is a disaster waiting to happen in a moving vehicle.

If you need to move a large aquarium, we would recommend relocating your fish and plants to a smaller vessel for the short term. You should then empty the aquarium and give it a good clean and protect it with lots of bubble wrap and blankets so it can be safely transported.

If youre hiring a Mover you will usually need a 2-man team to move an average size fish tank as the thick glass can make them exceedingly heavy. All of our Man and Van teams have access to moving blankets and restraints and they will know the best way to move and transport your aquarium safely.

How To Move Your Mattress

How to Move a Memory Foam Mattress
  • Moving Truck/Van: If possible, lay the mattress flat in the cargo space. Be sure not to stack the mattress on top of anything else and vice versa. If standing your mattress up, lean the mattress on its side against the support wall. Use nylon rope or ratchet straps to secure it against the support rails. If the ratchet strap is too short, connect two to make one large strap.
  • Pickup Truck: Position the mattress as flat as possible in the truck bed. Secure one end of the nylon ropes or straps to the D-rings, wrapping them over the mattress, and ratcheting or tying the remaining slack. If your mattress is larger than the truck bed, you may need to leave the tailgate open. Secure the back end of the mattress with rope or a strap in an X to prevent sliding.
  • Car/SUV : Lay the mattress flat on top of the luggage rack and check for rips or tears in the mattress bag. Wrap the nylon rope or ratchet straps horizontally across the front, center, and back of the mattress. Tie the mattress to the rack using a sturdy knot like the truckers hitch or one of these other popular knots used for moving.
  • Car/SUV : If your car doesnt have a luggage rack, lay the mattress flat on the car roof and check for rips or tears. Wrap the nylon ropes or ratchet straps across the mattresss body in the front, center and back . Pass the ropes through the front passenger door jams, back passenger windows and back up to the roof, securing the mattress to the car.

Hi Skyjumber,Some memory foam mattresses are shipped compressed which wouldn’t be a problem but others are shipped full size so it would be a good idea to check with the specific retailer or manufacturer of a mattress you are considering,Foam mattresses are fairly easy to bend around corners or bend over to reduce their height so this may also make it possible to take up your steps but they are also heavy so it would be at least a “2 strong person” job. Latex would be more “jello like” and floppy than a memory foam mattress. The foundation is more rigid but with either a KD foundation which comes in sections ready to put together or a split king which is much smaller than a queen, if a queen foundation fit down the steps then either a split king or a KD foundation wouldn’t be an issue either. An king innerspring mattress which doesn’t bend as easily would be a bigger problem if a queen “just barely” fit down the stairs.PhoenixResearching for a mattress?… Be sure to read Click here for if purchasing from Our Trusted Members. For any mattress questions on our forum

Folding Latex Mattresses For Moving And Storing

How to move a king mattress upstairs!

The characteristics of a latex mattress are very similar to a memory foam mattress, so many of them can also be bent or folded safely. Latex mattresses can be folded in half for around three to four weeks maximum. A latex mattress is perhaps less tolerant of being bent than a memory foam one. In that sense, bending it in half does pose some risk of negatively affecting its comfort and resiliency.

Hi Barra,

Just how flexible are the natural latex mattresses? I am assuming based on your reply to Skyjumper, that I could almost fold it yet still be able to curve the ends as the bed winds around to the next floor as well, without causing damage to the foam? Sorry if my question sounds confusing. …How “floppy” can it get without damage to the bed I guess.

It is “very” floppy and you could fold it in half and still be able to easily bend it around corners without damaging the latex as long as you are careful not to “stretch” or pull the latex or grab a handful of it through the cover because it can tear easily.PhoenixResearching for a mattress?… Be sure to read Click here for if purchasing from Our Trusted Members. For any mattress questions on our forum

Is There A Difference Between A King Size Bed And A Double Bed

A king-size bed is larger than a standard double bed with its ample lying area of Europeanized 200 × 200 cm. The limitation to usually and gladly taken 140 × 200 cm applies. A mattress 160 × 200 and a bed 180 × 200 cm are still significantly lower, even measured on the American bed size 193 × 203 cm. A king-size bed is, therefore, a trendy alternative to a smaller double bed. The disadvantage: a king-size bed 200 × 200 or with an impressive length of 200 × 220 cm, therefore, requires a lot of space in the bedroom.

The king-size bed USA is next to a bed 200 × 220 cm in impressive size on top of the possible bed sizes. It is considered very comfortable thanks to the great freedom of movement during sleep. The king-size bed dimensions make the difference to the queen-size bed. Initially 152 × 203 cm, queen size beds have a much smaller lying area. However, this is also suitable for a double bed. The bed trade corresponds to the European standard sizes of 140 × 200 and 160 × 200 cm. A queen-size bed can be compared with a French bed. The only difference is the equipment with one continuous mattress or two separate mattresses.

Bed Size & Home Measuring Guide

Nothing should get in the way of you enjoying your new bed. When it comes to creating the perfect sleeping space, you first need to know how big you can go. Heres a basic chart to the UK standard mattress and divan bed sizes to help you make the most of your bedroom

Bed Size

metric and imperial sizes are not exact equivalents There can be a tolerence of +/-2cm with all quoted measurements

Due to the vast range of bed frames – all with unique design features – bed frames are always described using the size of the mattress it takes. For example, a double bed frame will take a standard UK double sized mattress but the outer frame itself can be bigger. Although most bed frames are flat packed, check the dimensions section of your new bed for the exact measurements to make sure your bedroom is big enough.

Home Measuring Guide

One of the most common problems we face when delivering divan beds and mattresses is making sure there is enough space to carry your new bed or mattress through your home to the room of your choice. We know everyones home is different and not all stairs are the same. Thats why making sure your chosen bed fits through your doorways and up your stairs could prevent a lot of problems and disappointment on the day of your delivery. Here is a handy guide to make sure your bed will fit into your home.

Memory Foam & Foam Mattresses

If you have a memory foam or foam mattress, it can be bent in half because theres no border rod to worry about. Actually accomplishing this, however, is more difficult than it sounds. Manufacturers use special equipment to help them compress, fold, and pack the mattresses into those small boxes, but you probably dont have access to these tools. There are a few different tactics you can use to get your foam mattress up the stairs, but depending on how dense the foam is and what type of mattress you have, your mileage may vary.

  • Roll the mattress up and secure it with ropes.
  • Fold the mattress in half and secure it with ropes.
  • Put it into a plastic mattress bag, vacuum seal it, and roll or fold it up.
  • Dont try this alone – you will most likely need at least one or two people to help you.

PRO TIP: Some memory foam and foam mattresses have multiple layers that can be damaged when folded for extended periods of time, so dont store it folded for longer than necessary.

How Mattress Thickness Affects Folding A Mattress In Half

Generally, folding a mattress is not recommended because it can damage it. However, if you need to do that, there are certain things to pay attention to.

A foam mattress that is less than 6-inches thick can be folded for short periods of time if it does not have any solid or metal structural components. Thicker foam mattresses can be folded or rolled. Innerspring and pocket spring mattresses should never be folded in half.

Keep in mind that If you do need to fold up a mattress on a regular basis, there are foldable mattresses available that are specifically designed to be folded. We like this foldable mattress because it has an anti-slip bottom and is easy to move around and store. Most foldable mattresses come in one of three standard thicknesses, four inches, six inches, and eight inches. Of course, most people prefer to have a one-piece mattress and rarely need to fold their mattress, unless they need to move the mattress for camping or guest rooms.

A 1 to 2-inch thick foam mattress can be folded in half quite easily. Because it is not very thick, there should be no damage to it when it is unfolded. However, it should not be kept folded for more than three weeks.

A 3-inch thick foam mattress may be folded in half, but it should not be kept in that position for more than three weeks in order to avoid damage.

A 4-inch thick foam mattress can be folded in half, and it should not be kept in that position for more than two orat the maximumthree weeks.
