Layla Sleep Pillow Review

Layla Kapok Pillow Review: Best Adjustable Pillow | Healthline

I recently was having some back and neck pain when I woke up in the morning, and thought that my pillow could be part of the issue. I figured starting with replacing my pillow was the far less expensive option.after doing some research I ran across the Layla Sleep Kapok Pillow. Its an adjustable pillow thats infused with copper to keep the pillow both clean and cool. Ive now had the pillow for several months and wanted to share an in-depth review of the Layla Pillow. Is it really one pillow to rule them all as they claim? Or is it all just good marketing?

This means that if you are unhappy with the pillow for any reason after trying it, for up to 120 nights, you can email their support team to get a full refund. The Layla team does suggest trying the pillow for at least 2 weeks to give yourself adequate time to assess if the pillow is right for you.

Additionally, the pillow itself comes with a 5-year warranty on materials and workmanship. This covers stitching, flattening over time or any fading of colors through normal wear and use.

For Me The Lack Of Moldability Was The Kapok Pillows Biggest Flaw

I just couldnt make it stay in the shape I wanted and as a result I wasnt getting the best sleep. Read some of the kapok pillow reviews at Amazon.com and youll find that its a common complaint. If youre looking specifically for an all natural alternative to a soft pillow filling like down or polyester, kapok could be a good upgrade for you. Its safe , doesnt have any chemical odor and will provide roughly the same sleeping experience.

What Do The Layla Pillows Feel Like

The Layla memory foam pillow feels slightly softer than the Kapok. The filling, made of shredded memory foam pieces, gives the pillow a nice bounce and responsiveness.

RELATED: GhostPillow Review

The Layla Kapok pillow weighs more than the memory foam model, and it doesnt have much bounce. When your head hits the pillow, it will really sink into it. The kapok tree fibers and memory foam pieces give the pillow the feeling of traditional down, so its super lofty and luxurious.

Layla Kopak Pillow Review Verdict

If you want a fluffy, durable pillow, the Layla Pillow might be for you. However, if you sleep strictly on your stomach and tend to warm up excessively, it may not be your favorite pillow of all time. Is it worth the price? Thats up to you. With an MSRP of $99, its more expensive than your average pillow on , but fairly reasonable compared to similar pillows online. Plus, Layla does run promotions from time to time. We also appreciate that Layla offers a 4-month trial period and completely free returns. We were glad to see that Layla updated the pillow in 2019. Making the cover removableand pillow adjustableis a big deal.

Who Is A Layla Pillow Best Suited For

Loft-seekers. If, for any personal preference or a medical condition, you need a higher-loft pillow, the Layla Kapok with its 7 loft is the right solution.

Hot sleepers. As more than onecopper pillow review shows, the coppers presence as a heat conductor in the Layla Kapok Pillow doesnt allow heat retention.

Side sleepers. The excellent full-loft design and the softness of Laylas pillows are highly compatible with side sleepers. Depending on your body type, youll need to make little-to-no modifications to your pillows loft to sleep on your side.

Back sleepers. Both Layla pillows are modifiable to the point where you can choose your preferred loft up to the millimeter, as Layla Kapok memory foam pillow reviews attest. However, the Memory Foam Pillow is better fitted for back sleepers because of its slightly higher firmness level.

Stomach sleepers. For stomach sleepers who like a softer, stretchier, huggable pillow, the Kapok Pillow will be a better choice. For those who prefer firmness to a certain extent even when sleeping on their stomach, the Memory Foam Pillow can provide it. Either way, users will probably need to remove a significant amount of the filling to achieve the right loft.

A Choice You Can Feel Good Making

In contrast to other manufacturers, the Layla Pillows memory foam is CertiPUR-US® certified, which means it is made without ozone depleters, flame retardants, heavy metals such as mercury or lead, formaldehyde, phthalates, and have low emissions for indoor air quality.

Most importantly, the Layla Pillow is cruelty-free. Many leading providers still use goose down, which uses the feathers from ducks. The practice of live-plucking, common amongst premium pillow manufacturers, still exists today. Youll sleep easier on the Layla Pillow in the knowledge your pillow was created using cruelty-free methods.

Trial Period And Return Policy

Layla Kapok Pillow Review | A Supportive + Customizable Pillow

One of the strongest arguments we found in our Layla pillow review demonstrating the companys confidence in its pillows is that its products come with a full three-month trial period . This generous offer is conditioned only by a minimum trial period of two weeks to allow buyers to make an informed decision.

With the exception of the shipping fees to HI, AK, and Canada, Layla pillows can be returned completely free of charge. All you need to do to return a Layla Pillow is write an email to customer service where youll provide the order number and reason for your return.

Back And Side Sleepers

Since the Kapok pillow has a large loft , it’s an excellent pick for back and side sleepers right out of the box. The taller profile helps support and align your neck when you’re sleeping on your back. If you sleep on your side, you need a similar level of support. When you sleep on your side, you can also hug the pillow and squish it up however feels the most comfortable.

My Layla Pillow Findings

The Layla pillow has a medium loft. That means that it is thick enough to accommodate all sleepers. This is the first pillow with foam and kapok that I have tried. There are many latex/kapok pillow on the market which have a more bouncy feel. I think the foam used in this pillow pairs well with the kapok because you get the familiar down like feel and all the conforming and pressure relieving benefits of memory foam.

Best of all this pillow comes with a trial period so theres nothing to lose with giving it a try. Pillows you buy on Amazon or other sites often require you to pay return shipping. With Layla they cover the return shipping youre not out any money.

This pillow does NOT feel like the solid foam pillows of yesteryear. Think of the Layla pillow as a next generation foam pillow that leverages one of the best natural fibers, Kapok with shredded foam to make the pillow breathable, squish and comfy. The added benefit of a copper infused cover means you can get many years out of this pillow.

Sleeping On The Layla Pillows

Because you can remove some of the interior fluff, the Layla pillows should work well for all three sleeping positions. To find the right pillow height, make sure your body is in neutral alignment. For side sleepers, this means your ears line up with your shoulders. If youre a back or stomach sleeper, make sure your pillow allows your chin to line up with your sternum.

What Is The Layla Kapok Pillow Made Of

Layla Pillow Review

Cover: The Layla Kapok pillows cover is made from a blend of 66 percent polyester, 30 percent viscose, and 4 percent poly lycra, which is woven with copper fibers called CuTEC yarn. The copper is intended to draw heat away from you for a cooling effect.

Fill: The fill of this pillow is a mix of shredded memory foam and kapok fibers. Kapok fibers come from the kapok tree, which is native to areas such as Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, South America, and West Africa. The kapok fibers come from the seeds of the tree and make a soft, fluffy, natural down-alternative.

All the foam used in the Layla Kapok pillow is CertiPUR-US certified to be free from harmful chemicals and pollutants.

Additionally, the Layla Kapok pillow is available in either a queen or king size. I tested the queen size for this review.

Shredded Memory Foam Pillow

This is the cheaper of the two pillows offered by Layla. Rather than a traditional cotton filling or down alternative filling, this pillow is filled with shredded memory foam. The big benefit of shredded memory foam is it won’t ever get clumped as other materials do. This pillow is thinner than the Kapok pillow and best suited for side sleepers and stomach sleepers.

What’s In The Pillow & Overall Feel

The Kapok pillow is more than just a shredded memory foam pillow. Normally, shredded memory foam pillows have either a sinking feeling or a noticeable bounce depending on the type of foam that’s used. Shredded memory foam pillows are very popular right now because mattress manufacturers can just use leftover materials to make them. The Kapok pillow is a little different. The Kapok pillow is unique in that it uses a combination of memory foam and Kapok fibers. This gives the pillow a wonderfully balanced feel. It’s hard to describe, but it’s simultaneously very supportive while still being easy to compress, so it conforms to your head quickly and effectively. It’s one of those things that you have to feel to understand truly. The filling of the pillow makes it feel very huggable. You can either sleep on it like a normal pillow or hug it like a body pillow or stick it between your legs for extra hip support. It’s incredibly versatile and great at relieving pressure.

Layla Kapok Pillow: Review In Brief

The Layla Kapok Pillow is a popular adjustable bed pillow made from shredded memory foam blended with natural Kapok . It’s created by mattress manufacturer Layla Sleep, and there’s a big focus on cooling comfort here, making it a good choice for hot weather and sleepers prone to overheating at night. It comes with a bag of extra fill too, so you can make the pillow as shallow or as deep as needed to suit the position you feel most comfortable sleeping in.

After sleeping on a queen size Layla Kapok Pillow for three weeks, we now highly rate it as one of the best pillows for side and back sleepers prone to overheating. It’s plush but with enough firmness to balance it out for proper support and alignment, and a winning combination of copper and kapok makes for a well-ventilated pillow that quickly draws away body heat. We’ll explain the material technology behind this further into our review.

This isn’t a perfect pillow though – the Layla Kapok loses its shape easily so we had to re-fluff it each morning, but that’s a hardly a nuisance when the result is night after night of restful sleep. And despite the use of memory foam we didn’t detect any off-gassing pong when unpacking and sleeping on our review model.

Overall, if you want a well-made, durable and cooling pillow that’s especially comfy for side sleepers, and one you can adjust in terms of height and firmness, the Layla Kapok is an excellent choice.

Loft And Sleeper Type

Layla Pillows Review (2020 Update) – Which One is For You?

How comfortable you find a pillow is due in equal parts to your feel preference and your sleeper type. For example, if you sleep on your side or back, youll want a pillow with more loft in order to keep proper alignment, but if you sleep on your stomach, you need something thinner that doesnt kink your neck.

Like we mentioned above, the Layla pillows loft is 8 uncompressed, and about 4 compressed. Generally speaking, thats going to feel like too much height if you sleep on your stomach. Remember, however, the 2019 pillow has an adjustable loft, so you can change the height of the pillow.

We think the Layla pillow will be comfortable for back and combo sleepers, and most side sleepers, too. Though, it really depends on your body type. For example, if youre more petite, you generally need a thinner pillow regardless of your sleeper type since your neck is short. If youre larger or heavier, you will likely need a pillow with more loft for additional support.

Layla Sleep Company Policies

In the online mattress/bedding industry, its pretty much standard to provide free shipping, a trial period, and free returns, and in most cases, they include the same with their pillows.

The Layla Sleep pillow comes with free shipping via FedEx, free returns , a 120-night trial period, and a 5-year warranty if you decide to keep it. That means if you dont like the pillow after 4 full months of use you can still return it for a full refund.

A 120-night trial is one of the longer trial periods that weve ever seen for a pillow. And same goes for the warranty. Typically pillows dont come with a 5-year warrantytheyre more often in the 1-3 year range.

My Personal Experience With The Layla Kapok Pillow

So did the Layla Sleep Pillow live up to all of its promises? The TL DR version is overall, yes it did .

Heres the long version with all my personal details First, for reference, I am mostly a stomach sleeper, although at times I sleep on my side. So I prefer a pillow thats a bit flatter, but very moldable. I did purchase the King sized pillow, and the sizing matched exactly with what I would have expected.

When the Layla Pillow first arrived, I removed a significant amount of the stuffing . I then readjusted the remaining stuffing and removed a bit more after sleeping on it once. So expect to have to make some adjustments and do some trial and error to get it right for you. I personally love this flexibility to adjust the loft! This gives you great versatility no matter who you are and how you sleep.

Overall, I found the Layla Sleep Pillow to be super comfortable to sleep on. I think it is super soft, airy light and conforms really well to your neck and shoulders. I think it gives great support, but doesnt feel firm or stiff at all. It did decrease the neck and shoulder pain I was experiencing. I adore this pillow and plan to continue sleeping on it. I even took it with me on my most recent trip as Ive gotten so spoiled sleeping on it.

Layla Memory Foam Pillow

As you can see from the dimensions below, as confirmed in any Layla king pillow review, the Layla Memory Foam Pillow is 1.5 longer than the original, but less lofty, and hence, lighter.

The Layla Memory Foam Pillow also comes in two sizes:

Queen Size: 20 x 28 x 4.5, weighing 3.7 lbs

King Size: 20 x 36 x 4.5, weighing 4.7 lbs

Layla Kapok Pillow Firmness

Copper Infused Pillow: a Cooling Memory Foam Pillow That Stays Cool ...

For each sleeping position, I recommend a different firmness level in their pillow. A firm pillow is best for side sleepers, a medium pillow is best for back sleepers, and a soft pillow is best for stomach sleepers.

I thought the Layla Kapok pillow had a fairly firm feel. I felt my head and neck were quite elevated on this pillow and I didnt sink into it very much. The mix of kapok fibers and foam gives this pillow a plush, yet dense feel.
