Which Is Best For Shoppers

IKEA rolled packed spring mattresses

As far as shopping experiences go, Ikea has a much more consumer-friendly model. Why?

  • The free trial period is three times longer than Koala’s.
  • The warranty lasts a whopping 25 years.
  • Ikea has a number of stores around Australia, so you can try each mattress in store before entering the free trial period. This is an easy opportunity to quickly find models that don’t feel right, before committing to buy.
  • There are more models to chose from at varying price points.

But bear in mind that:

  • Ikea doesn’t have free delivery, and they don’t pick up if you want to exchange the mattress.
  • You can’t get a refund during the free trial period. You can only exchange your mattress for another Ikea model.
  • You’re only eligible for one exchange under the free trial period .

Are Ikea Mattresses Good Then

Even if youve been a bit put off by the mention of complaints about durability, keep in mind that these arent premium quality mattresses. That said, theyll offer a respectable degree of comfort for the average sleeper, provided they arent overweight. Combine this with their excellent returns policy, and youve got a product that provides remarkable bang for the investment it requires.

Can Ikea Mattresses Be Rolled Back Up

Likewise, can I roll an IKEA mattress?

Did you know that many IKEA mattresses are actually roll up mattresses, making them easier to carry, easier to get home and unpack, and more sustainable for the environment? At IKEA we want to help everyone keep a watchful eye on their carbon footprint while getting their best night’s sleep.

Furthermore, can you roll up a mattress? The biggest risk of re-rolling your mattress is the potential damage to the foam. Rolling a memory foam mattress can create uncomfortable lumps or creases in the bed, compromising support. Plus, there’s a chance your mattress won’t pop back up to its proper shape, and you‘ll be out a bed.

Likewise, how do you roll up an old mattress?

Boxes and/or bags to hold mattress parts.

  • Step 1: Cut and Pull the Cord From the Mattress Edges.
  • Step 2: Remove the Mattress Sides.
  • Step 4: Gather the Fabric and Interior Padding.
  • Step 5: Remove the Bottom Fiber Layer.
  • Step 6: Cut and Recycle the Metal Springs.
  • Step 1: Remove Reinforced Corners and the Dust Cover.
  • Do Ikea spring mattresses come rolled up?

Unlike the previous spring beds we mentioned, this one does not come rolled up in a box, which has its advantages and disadvantages. While there would be no waiting for the mattress to regain its shape fully, it is not so practical to carry it around or move through narrow corridors or bedroom door frames.

    Are Ikea Beds Any Good

The quick answer is yes, for an entry-level mattress price point using synthetic upholstery and pocket springs IKEA beds are fine. For the price point up to £650 they are good value.

If youre on a budget then the IKEA range of beds is a solid group of mattresses with some nice beginner bed features that other retailers could take a lesson or two from. However, if youre looking for a bespoke mattress, a bed thats breathable, tailored to your bodyweight or something to help you sleep when you have a bad back/health issue you should probably look elsewhere.

IKEA mattresses are most suitable for:

    • Mattresses on a budget
    • A mattress if you have no health complaints
    • People who find it easy to sleep on anything
    • Mattresses for your first home
    • Beds for buy to let
    • Student accommodation

Can You Roll An Ikea Mattress Again

Do Ikea Mattresses Come In A Box Or Rolled Up?

Yes, you can roll an IKEA foam mattress again. However, it may prove difficult as once a mattress is unrolled, its incredibly hard to roll it back up.

Alternatively, you can fold foam mattresses in half and tie it off with a piece of rope which allows for better transportation.

If you are moving houses and need to transport an IKEA foam mattress, this video showing how to dot it is very helpful!

Keep in mind that you should not bend or roll a spring mattress as this can damage the springs internally.

How Are Ikea Mattresses Rolled & Delivered

IKEA, like other mattress in a box companies, are offering to roll their mattresses for delivery. You will often find this with one-sided and entry-level mattresses for two reasons. The first reason is that the entry-level models only contain a fraction of the upholstery layers of mid to high-end models, meaning their contents can be crushed and squashed together far easier.

The second reason is that the cost of transport is far less with a mattress in a box. Its far easier to roll a mattress and get 40 on a truck than have 6 full-size mattresses on a truck.

Whilst its a clever way to save space, its probably not the best method of handling any mattress.

Rolling the mattress is done under considerable pressure to compress all the materials and they are then strapped up while they await delivery.

You will find with any rolled mattress that it takes days before it reaches its final settlement. It takes a while for all the air and spaces between the fibres and springs to reform. So youre not going to get a true feel of the mattress for the first 3-5days, in our experience. It does solve the problem of restricted access in smaller properties and flats, however, if you choose a Zip & Link model in our range, these come in two parts.

    A nice problem to have!

    It Conveniently Comes In Rolled

This is key if you’re worried about taking it home or moving it up the stairs. For one, the roll will probably fit inside your car instead of on the roof. I also *greatly* appreciated this feature when I lived on the seventh floor of an apartment building without an elevator. The included straps with handles made it easy to carry up the mattress up those many stairs, but IKEA also offers lots of other shipping and delivery options depending on what you need:

If you plan to take it home yourself,

    • Check to see if it’s in stock at your local store by visiting the website first.
    • Use the to skip finding and carting the item from the warehouse.

If you rather have it delivered,

    • Large-item delivery for online orders start at $39.
    • Home delivery orders placed in the store start at $59.

The HAUGSVÄR comes in two firmness options and four sizes: twin, full, queen, and king. I for one have absolutely zero regrets about buying it not that I would ever doubt my beloved IKEA.

So we thought we would give you our review of the latest IKEA mattresses applying our expertise in the mattress industry to show you what to look out for. Weve visited a number of IKEA stores, armed with their mattress technical specifications sheets to take their models for the standard 2-minute test drive that most bed shoppers undergo before picking a mattress.

Weve always advocated that this 2-minute test drive is pretty inaccurate to find a mattress and there are easier means to choose the correct mattress. Given that this is the average time spent testing a mattress in a showroom, it felt apt to follow suit.

We then reviewed it against the specification sheets to provide you with a review of the construction method of IKEA beds.

How Long Does It Take For An Ikea Mattress To Expand

IKEA states that their mattresses, once opened, take a full 72 hours to gain their intended shape and fullness. You can sleep on it before it is out of the package for 72 hours, but just know that your new mattress wont be all the way expanded until then. Additionally, IKEA notes that it may take your body up to two weeks to adjust to the new sleep. Like anything, change is hard at first but usually a good thing in the end. Keep that in mind with your new mattress, and make sure to give it a couple of weeks to get acclimated to it.

Hamarvik / Husvika Cage Sprung Mattress

    Roll Mattress Ikea

The Hamarvik is a very firm feel mattress great for sleepers on a really limited budget given its low price point. One-sided and cage sprung, youre not going to get the benefits of Pocket springs in terms of transference if you sleep with someone else. Cage sprung mattresses have a habit of bouncing and shaking when one sleeper moves. And this is reflected in the price.

Its good value at the price point but at the very lowest end of mattress manufacture quality.

The Hamarvik would actually make a great mattress base pad to go underneath another mattress to give the illusion of a sprung divan.

This model can also be crushed and rolled for delivery. It contains 23kg of materials in a kingsize, which to put into context is a third of most sprung mattresses which usually have 60kg+ of fibres and fillings.

The HUSVIKA has a very similar construction and upholstery composition and its also sold for day beds. We have reviewed them together given they are practically the same mattress.

We dont offer any comparisons to these two cage sprung models.

Before using for the first time, its normal for new mattresses to feel a bit too firm, so you should allow one month for your body to get used to the mattress and for the mattress to get used to your body. New materials also have their own particular smell. We recommend airing the mattress to help eliminate any smell. If you buy a roll packed mattress, you can use it straight away but keep in mind that it takes 34 days of use for them to regain their shape.

Side By Side Comparison: What The Dimensions Look Like

To make sure you dont get the wrong length and width mattress for your bed or wrong size bed for your IKEA bed mattress check out the sizes chart above. A classic mistake on size comparison is the full vs double sized mattress. IKEA double bed mattress is referred to as twin and a three quarter mattress from IKEA as full To visualise and compare what they look like alongside each other see the following:

    Hyllestad Pocket Sprung Foam Mattress

The HYLLESTAD is another combination of pocket springs and foam comfort layers. Its also one-sided, however, this model features replica tuft on the top. Given that you cant very easily tuft through foam, these looked stitched through to the top foam layer to help hold the cover in place. On traditional mattresses hand tufts are used which go all the way through the mattress and help hold fibres and upholstery in place to reduce settlement.

This IKEA mattress with foam and springs makes it impossible to truly tuft which is why they use this light stitch method instead.

This model features 570 synthetic pocket springs topped with 30kg Reflex foam and then 50kg memory foam for a really firm feel. Ikea doesnt give the depths, unfortunately, just the densities of the foam.

We dont have any comparisons for this model but found it true to its firm feel with a very solid comfort layer. Again, people not used to sleeping on foam should really try one first if possible to see if overheating is a problem.

How Wide Is A Standard Bed

Again we need to be clear here what dimensions and proportions we are talking about. If you are taking into account the bed frame then that could be anything based on the construction of the bed. The only real way you can do this is by going and measuring it. However if the it has no frame and is using a divan base then the table above will give you the exact width measurements since the bed frame wont protrude further than the mattress edge.

As an example have a look at the following image. You can see that the metal frame adds a bit of length on to the bed itself but there are no sides to it so the width is exactly the breadth of the mattress, the height of the mattress doesnt really matter as your room will accommodate it.
