Top Layer

The top layer consists of hand-tufted GOTS organic certified wool rosettes on top of an organic cotton cover. This tufting process makes the bed look amazing but also is used because you dont need to use a glue to hold the pieces of the mattress together.

Middle layers

The pillow top consists of a 2-inch latex layer followed by another 2 inches of latex below that for a total of 4 inches of dunlop latex.

Base Layer

The base of the mattress features one of the most advanced, internal, pressure-point support units available made by Leggett & Platt a Quantum Edge® Elite Combi-Zone®. The individually wrapped innersprings are arranged in 5 strategic zones, to support hips, back, and shoulders, plus a reinforced steel perimeter giving the bed a consistent level of support all the way to the edge so that you get proper support where you need it. What Is In An Avocado Green Mattress

Overall, we classify the Avocado Green mattress as an “All Natural Latex over Pocketed Coil” construction type. The standard version of this mattress isan 11 thick mattress comprised of 3 layers :

• 2″ GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex
• 8″ zoned pocketed coil support layer
• 1″ GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex base layer

The top comfort layer of the Avocado Green mattress, as well as the bottom 1″ layer, are natural latex, made from real rubber trees. You Might Not Like This If You:

• Prefer a non-latex feel The Avocado mattress has a true latex feel. SO not as much sinkage or hug as say a memory foam provides. Its also a little on the firmer side of medium.

• Want a foam bed If you know you want a foam mattress you should look elsewhere. The Avocado is a comfortable mattress but it wont probably transform you from a foam fan to a spring fan.

How Firm Is The Avocado Green Mattress

As with any feel factor, firmness is a subjective measure that can change a lot depending on ones body size, shape, and weight. Therefore, it would be a bit misleading to only report my firmness thoughts here, as my body is bound to differ from yours. To mitigate this bias, I invited a few of my coworkers into the studio to test this bad boy out with me.

The score you see below is the average of all our personal firmness ratings!

Our team landed on an average rating of about 6.5 out of 10. I personally experienced this bed a bit softer than that, but some of my colleagues found it to feel a bit firmer. Considering the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it seems this bed straddles that line in a pretty compelling way.

I personally gave the bed a 6 as I found its cover and latex comfort layer helped to soften up the firmness of the pocketed coil system. For some of my coworkers, however, they were really only able to experience the coils as they quickly pressed through the gentle comfort layer.

First Impression Of The Cover

As soon as you lay on the product for the first time, you can tell that theres just something different about this mattress. For starters, the hand-crafted tufts serve a bigger purpose than meets the eye. The 100% GOTS certified organic cotton cover textile secures the mattress layers firmly in place with wool yarn rosettes that hold the cotton ticking without the use of chemical adhesives. They act as anchors by pulling yarn through each layer of the mattress.

If you flip the mattress upside down, youll see the anchors where the end of the yarn is secured. It even improves durability as it prevents lumps and bumps from appearing over time. The Avocado cover features a poly-blend four-way stitch knit.

You can also see that the cover isnt your typical pure-white product that can be difficult to keep clean. Instead, youll find a pleasant combination of a darker and lighter green hue. I think this amusingly reflects the eco-goals of the company.

While the product isnt white, Id still recommend you purchase a mattress protector as this can extend the life of your mattress. This product is produced using a breathable, organic cotton. Since its internationally recognized as GOTS-certified, you can count on the fact that the mattress natural qualities have been inspected from production and processing to manufacturing, packaging, labeling, exportation, and importation.
