Does The Casper Element Mattress Sleep Hot

Casper Mattress Review – Is It The Best Mattress In A Box? (UPDATED!)

Like weve mentioned earlier, with Caspers patented AirScape layer, its mattresses are able to keep their users fairly cool at night.

Unfortunately, with the fewest layers out of the Casper mattresses, the Element tends to keep its users a little bit warmer while sleeping than if they were using any of the other models.

This is a drawback for this mattress to be sure.

Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown

The Casper Wave Hybrid is a hybrid model made up of multiple different kinds of foam layers on top of foam-encased pocketed coils.

The mattress cover uses a blend of recycled polyester, cotton, rayon, and lycra. The cotton is included for its breathability and temperature-regulating properties. The recycled polyester is an eco-friendly material made in part by recycling bottles into fabric.

The comfort system is constructed of three distinct layers. A top layer uses 1 inch of open-cell polyfoam that allows cooling airflow while cushioning the sleeper. The next layer is 1.5 inches of open-cell latex. This material is perforated for greater air circulation. Next, a 1.5 inches of zoned memory foam conforms to the sleepers body, taking pressure off heavier body parts.

A transition layer of 1.5 inches of polyfoam with targeted gel pods acts as a buffer between the comfort system and the core. Gel pods rest in grooves in the polyfoam to give extra support around the sleepers midsection while allowing their shoulders to sink in more. This is crafted to support improved spinal alignment.

The Wave Hybrid has a support core that is 7-inches thick in total. The mattress uses a 6-inch layer of pocketed coils surrounded by polyfoam to support the sleep surface while adding more bounce, breathability, and edge support.

The bed rates at around 5 on the 10-point firmness scale, meaning it has a medium feel. This is on the soft end of the average range that most sleepers tend to prefer.

Average Mattress Cost By Size

Because mattress price varies greatly depending on the type of mattress and potential add-ons, determining the cost of mattresses by size is difficult without accounting for other factors. However, the average mattress price by size generally breaks down like this:3

  • Twin Ideal for single sleepers and small spaces, twin-size mattresses cost between $100 and $500, with $300 as an average rate. For twin XL mattresses, expect to pay an additional $50 to $200.
  • Full Best for young adults and guest rooms, full-size mattresses typically cost between $200 and $600.
  • Queen The most popular size, queen mattresses typically cost anywhere between $300 and $2,000, depending on the type.
  • King For couples who love to sprawl out or share their space with kids and pets, king-size mattresses are ideal. Because of their expansive, luxurious size, they tend to be on the pricier side. Youll rarely find a quality king for less than $1,000 and the higher-end models can cost upwards of $5,000. Although less common, California kings are around the same price point.

What Are The Different Kinds Of Casper Mattresses

When I purchased my bed in a box three years ago, the company only offered one model, available in all the usual sizes. Since then, the line has expanded to include additional mattresses, as well as pillows, bedding, bed frames even a dog bed.

The Casper Original mattress, priced $1,095 for a queen, is, as you might have guessed, its original mattress. It’s the most popular model. You have the option for all-foam or a hybrid mattress , though it bumps the price up a couple hundred, to $1,295 for a queen.

The is Casper’s mid-tier model. It starts at $1,095 for a twin size, and $1,995 for a queen, and offers multiple layers for additional support, as well as cooling.

The Wave Hybrid is the upgrade model. Starting at $1,495 $2,595 for a queen, it costs significantly more but promises more layers, “advanced support,” and an even cooler night’s rest for hot sleepers.

The Essential is Casper’s starter model. Its slightly thinner than its other mattresses and has the fewest layers.

Casper Mattress Pain Relief Performance

Casper Mattress Cost

Pressure relief refers to a beds ability to alleviate tension at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. This is an important measure for all sleepers, but especially those who struggle with pain at night. To demonstrate the Caspers pressure relief, Ill be testing it out with a pressure map.

Basically, it works like this: I roll out the device, hop aboard, and let the map do the rest. As I roll around, the map records how much force Im exerting on the mattress, creating a colored map of the pressure. For reference, blue indicates areas of low pressure and red indicates areas of high pressure. The results below will help me determine if the Casper is a good choice for relieving pain!

Back Pain These results tell me that the Casper would be great for relieving pain, especially at the lower back. The zoned support foams offer extra support that does a great job keeping your hips boosted up in line with your shoulders, which is one of the keys to avoiding back pain. For this reason, the Casper is featured in our best mattress for back pain round up!

Shoulder Pain The Casper should do a nice job relieving shoulder pain for back and stomach sleepers. Side sleepers with shoulder pain might want to opt for a mattress with an additional layer of memory foam to get even more cushioning in this area.

How Much Does A Queen Mattress Cost

The average mattress size bought in the US is a queen size mattress. A queen will comfortably fit two people without taking up too much space, and theyre a good choice if you want something a bit more roomy without going over your budget. Because theyre the median price mattress from most sleep brands, queen size mattresses are usually a good indicator of overall affordability too. The price of a queen size mattress from the major online retailers are as follows:

  • Cost of a queen size Purple mattress – from $1,149 to $2,299
  • Cost of a queen size Saatva mattress – from $1,399 to $2,795
  • Cost of a queen size Casper mattress – from $1,095 to $2,595
  • Cost of a queen size DreamCloud mattress – from $1,099 to $1,399
  • Cost of a queen size Leesa mattress – from $999 to $2,199
  • Cost of a queen size Tempur-Pedic mattress – from $1,999 to $4,699

Casper Hybrid Vs Leesa Hybrid

The Leesa Hybrid and Casper Hybrid have very similar constructions. Both have a perforated polyfoamcomfort layer, a memory foam transition layer, and a pocketed coil support system. Both mattresses have a similar medium to medium-firm firmness level and work well for lightweight and average-weight people of every sleeping position.

Lightweight side sleepers may enjoy the slightly softer feel of the Leesa Hybrids top layer. However, the Casper boasts zoned support in the memory foam layer, which provides greater spinal support and pressure relief thats great for people with aches and pains. In addition, the Casper is slightly more affordable than the Leesa.

How Firm Is The Casper Element Mattress

The firmness for the Element is around a 5.5 on a scale to 10 .

This is acceptable and able to cater to many types of sleepers.

Compared to the Casper Original, it is slightly softer but with less overall support which is why this mattress is actually recommended for people weighing less than 250 lbs.

Those that weigh more will likely press more into the base layer and think that its a little too soft .

Unboxing A Casper Mattress Is An Event Unto Itself

Casper Mattress Review – Original Bed In A Box (UPDATE)

If owning a Casper mattress is blessedly unmemorable, getting one delivered sure makes an impression. Unlike traditional mattresses, it comes rolled up like a spring-loaded burrito. At 70 pounds , its about twice as heavy as the mattress we were replacing and proved comically difficult to get up the stairs.

Unboxing it was just plain fun. Casper clearly put a lot of thought into designing the experienceright down to the little letter opener-style knife to slice open the shrink wrap without damaging the mattress. We just had to make sure the mattress was in position on the bed frame before we cracked it open.

The final cutting away proved, thankfully, less explosive than anticipated. Rather, the mattress’ foam layers unfurl and expand as it takes its first deep breath in your new home. Just thinking about it makes me want to go home and crawl into bed for a quick nap.

Sure it looks small, but that box is CRAZY heavy. Still worth it, though.

From the delivery of the box to the magical unfolding of the king size mattress to the first time laying on the bed, all smiles here! I have traveled for work for years, often sleeping on different beds at different hotels night after night. None of those beds compare to our Casper Mattress and I’ve probably tried them all. Every time I climb into bed I smile and tell my wife I love our mattress. I think you will love it too.

How Does The Casper Mattress Feel

The original Casper Mattress has a medium feel. The mattress contains a top comfort layer of polyfoam, followed by a second layer of zoned memory foam. As soon as you lie down on the mattress, youll feel the memory foam contouring to your body. However, the polyfoam layer will respond a bit faster to your body. You wont experience the same deep hug compared to a mattress that only has a memory foam comfort layer.

The Casper Hybrid also has a medium feel and features the same comfort layers. Its feel is very similar to the original Casper Mattress close body-contouring with a light bounce on the surface. However, the pocketed coils give the hybrid more overall support. The mattress wont feel as bouncy as a traditional innerspring, but it feels a little more responsive than the original Casper Mattress.

C Cost Factors For Hybrid Mattresses

  • Coil Size and Quality Depending on the type of foam used for a mattress can be a huge price determination. The cheaper polyfoam will not be as durable or long lasting as a more expensive memory foam. Polyfoam may work better for those seeking a simple topper for an existing mattress. Memory foam mattresses that have special layers, such as using cooling gel and latex, may cost more than the simple just-memory foam bed, yet even these blended designs can be found at very reasonable prices.
  • Foam or Latex Quality Larger coils will take up more space than smaller coils and therefore be less costly. Micro coils commonly used in the hybrid mattress are crafted using a flexible, high-gauge, wire. This works as an aid for the mattresses flexibility and how the bed conforms to the body. When shopping one will want to seek out coils designed to work with a hybrid bed. These quality coils may drive the cost up a bit but are worth the higher price.
  • Number of Layers As with a foam or latex bed, the quality and type of foam or latex used can be a determining price factor. Foams with special cooling technology may lend to a higher cost of bed. The beds price can also end up being more when a natural latex is used instead of synthetic.

What Is In The Casper Mattress

Are Casper

Overall, we classify the original Casper mattress as a “Comfort Foam + Memory Foam over Foam” construction type.

The Casper mattress isa 10 thick mattress comprised of 4 layers :

  • 1.5″ polyurethane foam, 3.5-lb. density
  • 1.5″ memory foam, 3.5-lb. density
  • 1.5″ zoned polyurethane foam transition layer, 2.5-lb. density
  • 5″ polyurethane foam support layer, 1.8-lb. density

The Casper mattress is made of four foam layers stacked together. The topmost comfort layer is a standard polyurethane foam, while the second layer is memory foam. Although it does contain a small amount of memory foam, we would consider the Casper bed a foam bed, rather than a memory foam mattress.

The third layer represents a change for 2019 this layer now features firmer foam in the central third of the bed, under your hips, with softer foam at the head and foot.

A 5″ support core of standard foam forms the lowest layer. Youll note that the numbers above dont quite add up to 10 inches the last .5 inches of height can be attributed to the mattresss cover.

Heavyweight Sleepers Over 230 Lbs

A good number of heavier back sleepers should feel well supported when they are back sleeping, and that Zoned Support should provide extra lumbar support. That being said, much larger back sleepers, such as those who are over 275 lbs, will probably want a hybrid or innerspring mattress. See our list of the best innerspring mattresses for some good options.

Side sleeping, larger sleepers might feel like the Casper is too firm, and they could experience heavy pressure on their shoulders and hips. Also, larger stomach sleepers will most likely need a firmer mattress to give them the requisite amount of support. Those who need the best mattress for heavy people should see our roundup.

Innerspring Mattress Cost Considerations

Traditionally, the quality of an innerspring mattress has been measured by its coil count. More coils made it more comfortable and, usually, more expensive. However, a high coil count does not guarantee comfort, though it almost always makes the bed cost more.

If possible, find out the gauge of the coils in an innerspring mattress youre considering. Higher gauged coils are made out of thinner metal and wont last as long, but they are less expensive. Lower gauged coils will last a long time, but theyll cost you more.

Coil Type
High $$$

The composition of the comfort layer will also affect innerspring mattress pricing. That is the layer between you and the coils since you dont want to lay directly on them. If this is made out of high-quality foam or latex, the bed will be more expensive. If its more like the layer on a traditional mattress, the bed wont cost as much.

Finally, coils that are placed in individual pockets inside the mattress will cost more than coils that are next to each other with nothing in between. Placing all of that material in there to form the pockets cost something, and manufacturers will pass that cost on to you.

Does It Require A Foundation

Like the other Casper mattresses, the Element is recommended to be used with a foundation of some kind.

Because this mattress only has a couple of layers, it isnt quite as sturdy as other mattresses on its own.

Casper foundations can be found on their website and help the mattress itself live longer and stay more protected than if there were no foundation.

Hire Dumpster Rental Cost

Casper Mattress Review 2021 – Is It The Still The Best Bed In A Box?? (UPDATED)

For those who have additional junk to remove, dumpster rental could be a good choice at $75 to $125 for a dumpster that measures two cubic yards in size. This helps you declutter and get rid of everything at once. However, it takes up a lot of space in your driveway. Unless youve got enough to fill a container, its usually not going to be a cost-effective option. Some homeowners associations prohibit these items from being used. Fortunately, if you go this route, youll have the peace of mind that the price includes the dumping fees, so you will avoid paying that additional expense.
