Casper Vs Original Purple Mattress Comparison
The Casper and Purple mattresses vary significantly in their construction. The original Casper mattress features an all-foam construction and a Zoned Support system thats firmer near the middle of the mattress and softer near the head and foot. As noted above, the Purple is primarily constructed from the brands proprietary hyper-elastic gel polymer.

These construction differences produce very different feels. The original Casper has a balanced foam feel thats responsive and bouncy. As weve discussed, the Purple has a squishy-yet-firm feel thats also bouncy and responsive.
These mattresses also differ slightly in terms of their firmness levels. We ranked the Purple at 6.5/10, while we ranked the Casper a touch firmer at 7/10.
The mattresses are most similar when it comes to price. Depending on discounts and coupons, both mattresses should cost around $1,000 or so for a Queen size.

Who Should Steer Clear Of The Purple Mattress
- Stomach sleepers: The Purple Grid tends to sink in at the hips, pulling the lower back out of alignment if you sleep on your stomach. Only stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds will remain well-supported on the Purple.
- Plus-size people: If you weigh over 230 pounds, youre likely to sink through the thin top layer of the mattress. The result? Too much pressure near heavier body parts.
Keep The Floor Beneath Your Mattress Clean
To prevent dirt buildup, always vacuum, dust, and disinfect the area beneath and around your mattress. By keeping the floor clean, you prevent bugs and dust from infecting your sleep space.
Always be sure the floor is completely dry before replacing your mattress. A wet or even mildly damp surface puts your mattress at risk for growing mold.

Trial Period & Returns
Purple offers an industry-standard 100-night sleep trial period for all its mattresses. If you decide your new mattress isnt for you, Purple will pick it up and issue a refund with no pickup or restocking fees. Purple tries to either donate or recycle used beds.
Purple requires customers to keep the mattress for 21 nights prior to starting the process for a return or exchange. They say this allows for your body to adjust to the proprietary Purple Grid, a material unlike any other in the mattress industry.
Will It Sag Along The Edges
Although it improves significantly on common all-foam drawbacks, the Purple is still limited by foams poor edge support. While it has an average amount of support around its perimeter, sitting on the edge of the bed will cause it to sink beneath the weight and slightly distort the sleep surface. Sleeping close to the edge offers less support, but there is little feeling of roll-off except for sleepers above 230 pounds.
This is due to the high-density polyfoam core and transitional layer, which do the heavy lifting of stabilizing the entire bed. While they offer good support overall, the lack of reinforcement around the edges means that they may flex or bend in these areas more than in the center.
Despite these drawbacks, most people will find that the Purple offers enough edge support for their needs. However, people with mobility problems may struggle with the dip caused by sitting on the edge, particularly when combined with the Purples below-average profile.

Place A Barrier Between Your Mattress And The Floor
In addition to leaving your mattress on a finished surface, use a barrier, such as a piece of cardboard, a blanket, or a foam mat, between your mattress and the ground. This helps preserve the quality of your mattress and protects it from premature wear and tear. A barrier also keeps your mattress clean, making it easier to maintain, and can improve its insulating properties.
Motion Isolation And Noise
Surprisingly, the Original Purple does a pretty good job of limiting motion transfer. You might not think so, given how responsive and sort of bouncy the polymer top layer is, but the bed actually passed our tests easily. It also doesnt make any noise, virtually none, which is standard with most new online beds nowadays.

Benefits Of Sleeping On A Purple Mattress
When it comes to the benefits youll see in our Purple mattress review, clearly great sleep is at the top of your list. But how youll get that from the above listed materials? Below we will go through how the Purple bed will feel and perform. Giving you a first hand look at how it works for side sleepers, stomach sleepers, back sleepers and combination sleepers. Even how the Purple mattress works for bigger and taller sleepers too.
We will also detail how this polymer gridded bed performs for motion isolation, sleeping cool as well as edge support. Though the Purple mattress sets itself apart from memory foam mattresses, latex mattresses and hybrid mattresses, there will be similarities that come through in the benefits it offers.
How Is Purple Mattress Different
Purple bed mattress is neither too hard nor too soft, it is neither medium nor a mishmash of all three. Purple bed mattress is not your normal memory foam bed mattress either. It is really made of hyper elastic polymer. Hyper flexible polymer is a trademarked product. It is a pressure releasing material. It is used in grid development developing walls that can fold or support based on the pressure that is exerted on the surface of the material. The grid formation or column design naturally helps with complimentary air circulation. This avoids any wetness accumulation or trapping. The absence of wetness makes the bed mattress more secure and enhances the toughness. Needless to point out, it also ensures better sleep. The totally free air circulation will cool off the surface area as well as allow body heat to escape. The most typical problem about memory foam is the heating issue. The majority of companies claim to have overcome the heating problem but they havent and individuals realize earlier than later. The patented polymer materials utilized in Purple do not have the intrinsic concern of memory foam or latex among other mattress innovations. Somewhere To Lay On A Purple Mattress

Shipping Trial And Warranty
The Purple Mattress comes rolled up in a shipping bag.
Even if you’re an avid online shopper, it’s difficult to purchase over the internet when you’re unconfident about a brand’s policies. Especially when it comes to returns.
The Purple ships for free in a cardboard box directly to your front door. All you have to do is open it up, remove the plastic wrap, unroll, and voila — you have yourself a new bed. There will be an off-gassing smell right when you take it out of the box, but I wouldn’t say it’s a deal-breaker since it disappears after a few days.
They offer a 100-night trial, giving you more than three months to figure out if you like the bed or not. You should give yourself at least 30 days, though, to give your body a chance to get used to the feel.
Purple offers a 10-year warranty for its original Purple mattress, which is pretty much the standard for online beds.
Materials What Is The Purple Bed Made Of
What makes the Purple mattress unlike most other bed-in-a-box mattresses is the materials and construction of the bed. The top layer is not a foam, but a polymer grid paired with two additional layers of foam. Creating a 3 layer mattress that is just shy of 10 inches thick. Combine with the soft and breathable cover makes for a mattress unlike any of its competition and the best mattress of its kind.
Purple Mattress Smart Comfort Grid Top Layer
The material that really sets this bed apart is clearly the much raved about Purple Smart Comfort Grid. This top layer is a patented 2 inches of hyper-elastic polymer materials formed into a grid structure. This unique looking and feeling layer is meant for two main purposes. Comfort. Which is done by focusing directly on pressure relief by alleviating pressure points. This is done through the grid providing optimal support and contour as well as even weight distribution.
The other advantage to the Purple smart grid is also sleeping cool and comfortable all night long too. Because the top layer features a grid construction, opposed to a solid piece of foam, you have a surface that circulates air and dissipates heat. Ideally working to create a temperature regulated surface that is contouring yet supportive. Giving you a mattress that checks two of the biggest boxes of what people look for in a mattress.

Where Can I Lay On A Purple Mattress
Its simple to choose any mattress that you want and then call it a day. Yes, youll save dollars and perhaps some time by doing your research, but spend enough nights on a random mattress and then youll begin to wonder the reason you wake up tired and exhausted than the night prior.
Purple Mattress aims to solve that by studying the factors that make a great sleep more enjoyable with unique technologies like their Purple Grid Layer, which gives the mattress a certain feeling that is different from other mattresses in the market. How Does The Purple Mattress Feel To Sleep On
Purple wants to be the mattress of choice for all types of sleepers, whether your preference is to sleep on your back, side, or stomach. The mattress will feel different than others you might be used to, due to the companys patented Smart Comfort Grid design.
The grid consists of walls that will either support or fold depending on your bodys unique pressure points. It will flex in trouble areas, such as hips, back, and shoulders, but hold the shape in other areas.
The best mattress ever. Took away all aches and pains after the first night of sleeping on it. Firm where it needs to be and soft where you want it. It conforms to any sleep position which is perfect for me. I wish I would have gotten this sooner! Lauren W.
The Smart Grid design helps limit motion transfer, so as your sleeping partner moves around, you wont feel a thing. The grid also promotes uninterrupted airflow, which will keep the mattress cool and increase your level of comfort.
In contrast, the All-New Purple mattress represents a hybrid design that sandwiches a layer of traditional support coils between layers of foam. The outer layer in the All-New Purple is customizable. Customers can choose the thickness thats most to their liking.
Sleeping better than ever. I thought our previous memory foam mattress was amazing, but after sleeping on Purple for a month, anything else feels like concrete in comparison. Purple is somehow soft and supportive. Nate L.

Does The Height Of Your Bed Matter
The height of your bed has no effect on the quality of your sleep. However, if you have mobility issues and struggle to get in and out of bed, youll want a bed you can access without squatting or jumping. A bed between 16 to 24 inches tall is generally easiest for adults to access.
Furthermore, the height of your bed impacts the appearance of your sleeping space. A low bed gives the appearance of taller ceilings and more space, while a tall bed works best in a large room with high ceilings as it can make a small room seem overcrowded.
How Does The Purple Bed Feel
It looks and feels more like a gel or silicone-like material, unlike any type of memory foam or poly foam. The top layer is laid out in a grid formation, which creates a bunch of tiny squares across the beds surface. The polymer material is extremely soft, flexible, and responsive. In fact, Hyper-Elastic Polymer can be stretched to 15x its original state. Try doing that with foam and see what happens .
What really makes Hyper-Elastic Polymer special, though, is that its also quite supportive. You kind of get the best of both worlds with this material. Its soft, comfortable and pressure relieving, yet its also able to support all types of sleepers.

My Favorite Things About The Purple Mattress
I really like how bouncy and responsive this bed is. If youre worried about feeling stuck in your mattress, youll be happy on this buoyant bed. I also love how cool this bed sleeps the Purple grid is aerated, which means it creates lots of breathability. Finally, I think this bed comes at a really great price.
Purple 3 Mattress Body Type Analysis
- Petite Sleepers
The Purple 3 will provide more than enough support for smaller-sized individuals. In all honesty, petite body types could probably save money and go with the flagship Purple mattress. The flagship model will still provide adequate support, yet youll still get the benefits of Hyper-Elastic Polymer.
- Average Sleepers
Average-sized sleepers will experience plenty of support from the Purple 3, but because of their lighter size, they may not feel as much of the pressure-relieving capabilities these beds can provide.
- Heavy Sleepers
We generally steer heavier sleepers toward beds with coils, so the Purple Hybrid Premier fits the bill.
Coils are more durable and also provide more support than the dense foams a lot of online mattresses use for their support structure. Coils, as opposed to support foams, provide bi-directional support, which basically means the coils have some give but also push back against pressure. Beds with coils are better equipped to support all the extra pressure big folks exert on a bed.
We think so highly of the Purple 3, it even made our list for the Best Coil & Spring Mattresses.
