While state laws primarily address the issue of returned mattresses, theres no federal law that requires a mattress retailer to refund money. Per most state laws, refunds are subject to the established mattress store refund policy at the time of purchase, unless the purchased mattress is found to be useless for the purpose of which it was intended. A customer changing his/her mind after making a mattress purchase, such as deciding they want a bed with coils , is not the fault of the retailer and the latter cannot be held responsible.
In broad terms, most mattress stores do offer refunds. Its usually pursuant to a bed store policy which explicitly that returns are to be extended, in order to strengthen its brand in the community but this is simply a mattress store policy not a federal law.

In recent years, a number of new companies, including Casper, Helix, Leesa, Saatva and Tuft & Needle, have declared that they will abide by these rules. This is great news, assuming they actually follow through. So this summer, I put the five companies to the test by ordering a mattress from each one, then returning them all, just to see how painful the process would be.
When I made a similar declaration in The Wall Street Journal in 2004, the process was painful and expensive. I paid several hundred dollars in return and disposal fees and spent a lot of time waiting.
I offer no recommendations on comfort. Mattresses are like shoes or bras or chairs in that different people with different bodies will have different needs.

Do we recommend it? Probably not.
Who its for: The Casper Wave Hybrid, Caspers most expensive mattress, should appeal to people who sleep in any position, and it seems likely to last through the warranty for those weighing less than 200 pounds. We tried the previous version of the all-foam Wave in 2019 if the updated model is similar, as the company says it is, it should also appeal to sleepers of all positions. The Wave is sold only by partner retailers, including Amazon and Wayfair.
How it feels: The Wave Hybrid feels medium-firm, landing somewhere between the firmer Original and Original Hybrid and the softer Nova Hybrid. I found the Wave Hybrid foamy yet resilient. We havent tried the updated version of the all-foam Wave, and helpful online feedback was scant at the time we looked, but we expect it to feel just a tad firmer than the Wave Hybrid.
What we like: The all-foam Wave packs five layers into 13 inches. Like the Original, its topped with a dense non-memory-foam polyurethane foam. But instead of having memory foam directly underneath, it has a layer of SonoCore synthetic latex, atop a base layer of polyfoam. The Wave Hybrid is similar in build, but instead of the foam, it has coils.
The Wave offers an unusual sleep sensation, though wed recommend it only if youre not happy sleeping on anything else and you also have a very flexible budget .
Casper Mattress Firmness And Feel
While completing this Casper mattress review I slept on the bed exclusively for 15 days and, like any mattress, it had its pros and cons. I felt incredibly comfortable lying on my back and stomach, but I could only spend so much time lying on my side before I felt like I had to change positions. If I slept on my side too long, I would wake up with tingling arms â a sign that the mattress may have been just a little too firm for me personally. However, I see a lot of side sleepers enjoying this mattress if you weigh over the 150 pound range.

However, in my experience, I wouldnt say that its cooler than any of the other mattresses weve reviewed either.
The Select is 12 inches tall and contains four layers of foam. A PR spokesperson didn’t point to specific cooling features, though the production description mentions that it’s made with “breathable open-cell foam.” Indeed, this mattress felt consistently cool in the weeks I spent sleeping on itand thats really saying something, seeing as I had it during two Northeast heat waves when overnight temperatures didnt dip below the low 70s.
Casper claims both mattresses have zoned support, which basically means that different parts of the mattress provide more or less support to your body overnight. The company says this design ergonomically aligns your spine. However, every time I chat with the customer service desk about how the different levels of support are created, I cant get a straight answer. That said, its tough to discern how much of this is marketing fluff as opposed to features that will make a difference in your sleep. Im also not sure what it means when it comes to rotating your mattresssomething thats thought to promote even wear.
