How Much Bigger Is An Alaskan King Than A Wyoming King Or Texas King Mattress
An Alaskan king is much bigger than both Wyoming and Texas kings. The Alaskan king bed is a full 24 inches, or two feet, wider and longer than the 84 by 84-inch Wyoming king mattress.
An Alaskan king bed is also 28 inches wider and 10 inches longer than the Texas king. These gigantic dimensions make the Alaskan king bed one huge mattress!
Best Mattress Topper For Heavy People
If youre not ready to purchase a new mattress but would like to add a new feel to your bed, a mattress topper may be the way to go. Latex mattress toppers are a great option for heavier people because of their durability and the support they provide. Check out the Avocado mattress topper for an excellent latex option.
If you are looking for a classic memory foam feel, the VicoSoft mattress topper could be the one for you. This topper is made from a high-density memory foam that provides nice body contouring around the lumbar area. Additionally, it is a 3 mattress topper, which is thicker than most other models, which can help it last longer and provide excellent pressure relief for heavier people.
Wyoming King Size Mattress
The Wyoming king is the smallest oversized mattress, but dont let that fool you. At 84 inches wide by 84 inches long, this mattress is still 8 inches wider and 4 inches longer than a standard king mattress. Its 7056 square feet, 976 square inches larger than a king mattress.
Some mattress companies might call 78 by 78-inch beds emperor mattresses, but a 78 by 78-inch bed is a small emperor mattress, not an emperor or Wyoming king bed.
A Wyoming king is a good option for couples who just need a bit more space to spread out or who are both taller than 6 feet. Its also wide enough for parents to co-sleep comfortably with one child.
The Wyoming king bed costs between $1500 to $3000. Your room should be 12 by 12 feet to suit a Wyoming king mattress.

Do Alaskan King Or Wyoming King Beds Really Exist
by Sleep Boutique | Feb 26, 2018
Youve heard about them, but have you seen one? And yes, they do exist and can be found at Calgarys custom mattress designer and builder, Sleep Boutique.
For the past decade, weve seen a growing trend of customers wanting even larger oversized mattresses. The traditional King-sized bed isnt enough for them:
- Some people like and want more space while sleeping with their significant other the sound effects from the other side of the bed may be too loud, or too much motion.
- The Family Bed. Many families, especially younger ones, want the whole family to sleep together.
- Big Dog people. If you have no space in your bed because of Mans Best Friend, it could be time for the Alaskan.
- Other folks have the room and want the biggest, baddest bed on the block.
What Makes The Nectar Premier Stand Out
- The fact that this is an all-foam bed is pretty astounding, as memory foam usually doesnt do a great job of supporting heavier sleepers. That being said, we should note that anyone over 300 pounds might need a firmer innerspring bed.
- While memory foam tends to sleep hot, the Nectar Premier keeps cool with a Phase Change Material that works to dissipate any body heat that builds up during the night.
- Nectar also offers an Adjustable Base in case youre looking for even more support from the bottom of the bed.
WinkBeds currently offers four innerspring mattress models, with the Plus made specifically for larger people. They should find plenty of support in 7.5 of zoned, individually wrapped coils and a zoned latex layer. Both of these layers are firmer in the center, giving extra support right under the lumbar zone.

How To Change Your Sleeping Position To Get A Better Nights Rest
Sleeping on your back is not the best method to sleep. It can lead to neck and shoulder discomfort. This is since when you sleep on your back, the weight of your head lowers on the muscles in your neck and shoulders.
The most popular sleeping positions are side-lying, supine, and vulnerable. Side-lying allows for much better blood circulation to the body and improved nutrient absorption from food. Supine puts less pressure on the spine than prone does, however it can trigger a lack of oxygen in some cases. Prone permits more oxygen intake and puts more pressure on the spinal column than supine does.
Some individuals might be able to change their sleeping position. In contrast, others might need assistance by utilizing an assistance pillow or a prop such as a rolled-up towel or thin blanket.
What Are The Standard Mattress Sizes

- Twin: 39 x 75 inches
- Twin XL: 39 x 80 inches
- Full/Double: 54 x 75 inches
- Queen: 60 x 80 inches
- King: 76 x 80 inches
- California King: 72 x 84 inches
Some non-standard sizes you might come across include crib, toddler, small single , full XL, and Olympic queen size mattresses.

Family Bed And Family Xl Mattresses
A family bed comes in a few different measurements. You can find a standard family bed that measures either 144 inches wide by 80 inches long or 120 inches wide by 80 inches long. When it comes to family XL beds, these measure 144 inches wide by 84 inches long.
These mattresses are the largest beds you can buy in terms of width, but the length is only 4 to 8 inches longer than a standard king. This is because they’re meant to accommodate an entire family or families who prefer to co-sleep with at least one of their children.
What Makes The Winkbeds Plus Stand Out
- The bed has a pillow top with high-density, sag-proof foam that, while comfortable, shouldnt sink or sag under heavier weight.
- The WinkBeds Plus sleeps cool the coils promote airflow, and the latex is naturally cooling.
- The WinkBeds Plus is a wonderful option for heavier back sleepers. They should feel their hips sink in the perfect amount while the coils and zoning provide support.
When Puffy says their mattresses feel like youre sleeping on a cloud, they arent lying. The Puffy Royal Hybrid the brands most luxurious model contains plush, slow-moving memory foam thats excellent for heavier side sleepers. At the bottom, youll find a layer of high-density support foam and Puffys Contour-Adapt coils. These materials give the bed an especially long lifespan and allow it to handle heavier weights.

Downsides Of A Texas King Mattress
As big a statement as a Texas King makes, there are a few drawbacks to investing in this large bed.
- Difficult to install Since the Texas King mattress is both significantly wider and longer than a Cal King, it can be rather difficult to move them in and out of rooms with doorways not used to accommodating beds that size.
- Hard to shop for The exceptionally large size of this mattress may offer tons of space, but not so many options in terms of bedding. It may be hard to find a bed frame with an adjustable bed, bed linens, and fitted sheet sets for the mattress. Since Texas Kings are outside of the standard range for bedding and sheets, youll have a harder time finding sheets and covers that suit your style than if you chose a California King.
- Plenty of space required Due to the Texas Kings width, youll want to carefully consider your options before opting for this beast of a bed. Youll want at least two feet on either side of the bed to comfortably fit night tables . That means youll need a room thats 104 inches wide .Since most master bedrooms dont come Texas-sized, you may struggle to create a sleep environment that has room for your furniture and the bed.
Why Is An Alaskan King Bed So Big
People seek out the largest mattress size on the market for various reasons. For some, the visual impressiveness and aesthetics of these marvelous beds seal the deal. For others, usability with a large family or a couple who enjoy sprawling out when watching TV or working from bed.
In other cases, people who toss and turn or who sleep with pets may prefer the extra space. Lastly, those with large luxurious homes often have large master bedrooms that make even a King-Sized bed look small in comparison. In such spaces, an Alaskan King can appear more proportional to the living space.
