The Optimal Firmness Of The Mattress
Before buying a mattress, check very carefully whether the model you want meets the requirements for your back. If the mattress is too hard, this is not beneficial for your back, but leads to long-term discomfort. The spine is not optimally positioned , so that sufficient recovery is not guaranteed during the night. The muscles have to work stabilizing so that regeneration is hardly possible.
If you wake up in the morning with back pain and are clearly overtired, then check whether your mattress is the right firmness. If it is too hard and your body does not sink deep enough into the mattress, a topper can help. This is a perfect addition to a hard cold foam mattress and will increase comfort.
New Tempurpedic Is Too Firm27 Nov 2016 0: 42#1
||Hello,My wife and I just purchased a new TempurPedic Contour Elite bed after getting rid of our 8 year old spring mattress. The model in the store seemed both soft and supportive. However, we’ve had the mattress about 8 days now and I just can’t sleep through the night on it.One of the reasons we wanted this mattress was the claim that it reduces or eliminates pressure points. Sleeping on this mattress is like sleeping on the floor. I sink in a couple inches and then hit a hard surface that’s completely unyielding. Pressure builds up in my shoulders causing me to toss and turn all night and wake up in pain. I’ve tried various combinations of pillows, both memory foam and conventional. I talked to the salesman who sold us the mattress and he said to give it 30 days and if we still don’t like it they will refund our money. I still regret shelling out over $4000 for this glorified slab of concrete.Does anyone else have one of these mattresses and did it soften up over time? I just can’t imagine it softening up enough over the next 30 days to the point where it’s actually comfortable. We’ve tried walking around on it before bed to try to shorten the break in time but so far it doesn’t seem to be doing much.FYI, I weigh about 170 lbs.|

S To Make A Mattress Softer
If you dont get the cloud-like feel you expected from your mattress, you dont sleep well. When you dont sleep well, you wake up feeling irritable and exhausted. Lack of sleep affects your daytime productivity and efficiency, but that doesnt mean you have to buy a new bed. Here are a few steps to soften your mattress so you get a good nights rest to rejuvenate yourself.
When Can A Baby Have A Softer Mattress
Most toddlers transition from their crib to a toddler or twin-sized mattress between 18 months and two years old. At this age, our littles no longer need the firm crib mattress and can begin to transition to their big kid bed. Similarly, another standard used to judge readiness for a new bed is height. Once a little one reaches 35 inches or taller, they may be ready for a new bed and mattress.
At this age it also becomes more of a choice related to preference and comfort as to whether you go with a firm or a softer mattress for your growing child.
If you want to skip the extra cost, forego the toddler-sized bed and opt for their permanent big kid bed with side guards or rails if you worry about your little one falling out of their much bigger bed.

Select The Right Mattress Protector
Choosing the right mattress protector can also significantly impact how your new memory foam mattress feels from the get.
Depending on its material, your mattress protector may aid or hamper your efforts with the new bed. A protector made from a high-insulating fabric will only allow minimal heat to go through. Hence, what you want is a lightweight protector that lets in as much heat as possible.
Another important parameter you should consider is the stretchability of the mattress protector.
A super stretchy cover helps to maximize the mattress conformability as it does not constrict the shape of the foam. Hence, you may notice a significant decrease in the firmness of the new mattress from getting a more stretchy protector.
Using tightly fitted sheets can have the same compacting effect on memory foam as non-stretchy mattress protectors. Both options can constrict the foam and reduce its conformability, which can increase the overall firmness of the bed. With fitted sheets, you are better off opting for one that has at least an inch clearance of your new mattresss height.
Recommendation: The Slumber Cloud Dryline Mattress Protector is a lightweight mattress protector that can fit mattresses with up to a 16-inch height.

Layer Up With Bedding
Are you looking for an instant solution to make your mattress softer without spending a penny? Layering it up with a couple of blankets might be a good idea. This can insulate your skin from contact with the firm mattress surface.
Even better if your blankets are made from fluffy materials such as faux fur or fleece. But in the absence of comfy blankets, comforters can be a great alternative. You can always lay a few on the bed so your body only feels the coziness of the comforter.
This can be a great short-term solution as you look for a more permanent option.

Do Tempurpedic Pillows And Mattresses Get Softer Over Time
Tempurpedic pillows and mattresses, just like any other type of bed products, will compress and sag over time. This is due to daily use, which fatigues the cell structure. Memory foam in the pillows and mattresses have the tendency to repeatedly compress and decompress according to pressure and temperature. When you lie down on the product, your body pressure and temperature will cause tempur cells to fully break in, allowing the mattress or the pillow to expand. Therefore, the foam conforms to the shape of your body. However, as stated by The Polyurethane Foam Association, when you get out of bed, your body pressure is released from the foam, and the pillow or mattress will slowly revert to its original shape.
According to bedding experts and testers, constant pressure and heat will eventually expand your memory foam product and decrease its functionality. It is when the product is fully expanded and overused, that you will notice the foams defects.
Increased Tossing And Turning
A mattress is too firm if instead of enhancing your comfort during sleep, it leads to increased tossing and turning. While an extremely soft mattress can also lead to sleep discomfort, adjusting to sleeping on a firm one can prove extra challenging.
The low sink-in rate in firm mattresses prevents your back, neck, and joints from settling in smoothly and adjusting to the mattress design. This might lead to distorted sleeping patterns. That is, you might find yourself waking up more times during the night, which should be a concern if youre usually a sound sleeper.

How Do You Recognize A Mattress That Is Too Hard
The best way to check whether the mattress suits you is based on your sleeping position. Do you prefer to lie on your back, side or stomach? Different mattress designs are advisable for each position, so you have to take this into account when buying.
In general, the principle applies that the mattress should promote the natural posture of your spine . If your back is bent or bent in an unnatural way, this leads to long-term discomfort and pain. The lumbar spine area , the shoulder area and the cervical spine are particularly affected . Due to the unfavorable sleeping posture, pain in the lower back, tension in the shoulder area or the typical headaches can occur. But how do you control your healthy sleeping posture?
It is best if you have someone else check your sleeping posture . You yourself have become so used to your position that you may not even notice how crooked and crooked you are.
In the side position, it is important that the spine is as straight as possible and not shifted up or down. If the mattress is too hard , the problem is that the shoulders and the lumbar spine area hardly sink in and are therefore higher. The middle of the body practically sags, so that deformations form there. Often the head is in too low a position because a suitable side sleeper pillow is not used. In the side position, the head, mid-shoulder and buttocks should be in line. A knee pillow can also be helpful for greater stability to convey.
Mattress Too Firm Heres How To Make It Softer
Memory foam is well-known for its ability to mould to your body shape, deliver proper back support, and provide pressure relief. But after just a night of sleeping on it, many people will already conclude that its too firm. Which, if you ask us, is often a mistake.
If its dreamy sleep youre after, we say give it a chance. There are countless benefits if you stick with it. And, heres the thing its meant to feel like a firm mattress at the start.
A handy rule of thumb? Never expect a memory foam mattress to be soft off the bat, as it needs to be broken in before getting that desired plushness and comfort.
Due to the higher density of material per cubic metre, memory foam mattresses may require a longer break-in period. This means your new mattress will need your time and patience to adjust to you. And you to it.
Just like introducing anything new in your life , an adjustment period is essential to break your mattress in and get comfy with the new sleeping experience. Great things take time! And if you end up getting a great memory foam mattress, itll be worth it in the end. Trust us.

Drawbacks Of A Soft Mattress
Though they can seem more comfortable and luxurious, a soft mattress can actually cause back problems for back and stomach sleepers, and those of a heavier weight.
Soft mattresses can also be problematic for bed sharers. The heavier partner may sink further in, making the sleep surface unbalanced. Finding a firmness that suits both parties can be tricky.
In some cases, soft mattresses may be less long lasting than firm. All types of mattress tend to become softer over time, so starting from an already soft baseline can lead mattresses to become unusable after a shorter amount of time, though there are still many models that have excellent durability, even with a softer feel.
