Divan Base And Tempur Mattress Issues
I purchased a tempur original mattress about 7-8 years ago and put it on my slatted bed. I changed my bed base about 10 months ago to a cheap divan base with drawers. Now i find our backs are really aching every morning.Do you think it could be this cheap base and what bed base would you advise for this mattress. There isnt a whole world of difference between a solid top base and slats. There would be a bit more difference if the slats were sprung as theres a bit more movement there but again still not a whole world apart.
It is difficult to definitively put aches and pains down to a mattress or base A sprung base will give the mattress a slightly softer feel whereas a solid top platform divan or slatted bed base will give the mattress a slightly firmer feel overall. Please see our base range here.
Our advice here would be to add a mattress topper as this will introduce an extra comfort layer and soften down any bed that is too firm. You should generally follow the rule of foam with foam, latex with latex etc. As such it might be worth having a look at our Coolblue and Laygel toppers.
Both have a depth of 7.5cm giving plenty of surface to sink into before you hit the mattress. The Laygel is the softer of the 2 but both models are more a medium density overall.

Why We Switched To A Divan Bed Base For Our Tempur Mattress
That was until we were feeling at night like the Tempur mattress has suddenly stopped being as cushiony and supportive. It was as if the mattress has become squashed or compressed and was not giving full comfort any more.
This was when we delved underneath the bed, only to realise that our super squishy marshmallow bed was kind of seeping through the gaps in the bed slats like sausage meat!

We have now switched to a flat platform style base, one with a solid base for the Tempur mattress to lie on and the mattress feels back to its old self. Extremely comfortable and very supportive.
If anyone was asking which type of bed to go for, to use with a memory foam mattress, I would always say go for a platform style divan bed base. To give your memory foam mattress more support and to protect it for its full life of use.

To address the issue of the desirable flat surface for your mattress when used on a sprung slatted base, you should really be taking measures to do all you can to achieve this. The best method we have found is to place thin sheets of MDF onto your slats, to create the flat even surface required.
