Sweet Nights Original Pillow is a great option if youre looking for an adjustable pillow. Available in standard, queen, and king sizes, the pillow uses fill consisting of shredded, gel-infused memory foam blended with shredded polyfoam. Our testers reported that this combination created a plush yet supportive surface for the head and neck with even contouring around these areas.

You can unzip the cover to add or remove the fill and adjust the pillows loft and feel. We recommend a thicker, fuller loft for side sleepers. Back sleepers may need to remove some of the initial fill to lower the loft and sleep comfortably. Each order includes a bag of additional fill.

A Tencel-blend cover is both breathable and moisture wicking, making the pillow a good option for hot sleepers, people who sweat in their sleep, and those who live in exceptionally warm or humid places. The shell can be removed and machine-washed, though Sweet Night suggests hand-washing the fabric to extend its lifespan.

The Original Pillow comes at an affordable price-point, and Sweet Night offers free shipping throughout the contiguous U.S., though certain remote regions will be charged an extra delivery fee. The sleep trial runs for 30 nights, during which you can decide whether to return the pillow or keep it. Those who choose the latter receive a 3-year manufacturers warranty.

Check The Return Policy

Since one pillow will not work for everyone, make sure to check the brands return policy. Many brands offer a trial period or returns, but some brands do not allow you to return the pillow. Youll want to choose a pillow with a good return policy in case the pillow does not work for you, unless youre willing to take the risk of not being able to return it.

$12499 From $9999 At Eli & Elm

The supportive Eli & Elm Side Sleeper pillow has a curved cutout that creates room for your shoulder when sleeping on your side, setting this pillow apart from the rest. We found the extra room quite comfortable and also appreciated how it let us hold onto the edges of the pillow while sleeping on our side, keeping our arms and hands more comfortable too. As a bonus, we loved that we felt like we were cradled when we slept on our backs too, so its a great choice if you shift positions often.

The pillow is filled with a blend of latex and polyester that is adjustable and removable. Similar to other adjustable pillows, you can take out as much fill as you want to achieve the exact height and firmness level thats most comfortable. We found the pillow came with plenty of fill for those that like a firm pillow, though we had to remove some to soften it up. If you like an extra-firm pillow, Eli & Elm offers an option to buy extra fill. It took a few nights of trial and error before we figured out the optimal amount of fill, but once we did we found the pillow very comfortable.

The Side Sleeper has two slight drawbacks. First, we found that the pillow sleeps slightly hot not so much so it disturbed our sleep but if you are sensitive you may want to keep that in mind or plan to accessorize with some of our recommendations for hot sleepers.

Sleep Artisan Luxury Side Sleeper

Eli & Elm Side Sleeper Pillow Review – The Best Pillow For Side Sleepers??

Dimensions:Fill:REASONS TO BUYREASONS TO AVOID

The Sleep Artisan Luxury Side Sleeper was only lost to our favorite by a smidge we love this pillow too. The long crescent shape rolled accommodatingly along with our lead tester, who tends to sleep with all the restfulness of a horizontal tornado. We really like the fill, which nicely fills the cover even when adjusted to be thinner. The sideband that helps keep its shape is also softer than the Honeydew pillow, which is a nice benefit.

Although the Sleep Artisan pillow is made from high-quality materials, these materials can only be spot washed, which is a bit of a disappointment. Some testers also wished this pillow was a touch firmer when thinned down, but even so, it is still one of our favorite pillows. We recommend this pillow if you tend to be restless, as this one will roll with you rather than rolling off the bed and can be folded and tucked nicely if you want a firmer or thicker spot in the middle of the night.

The Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Ergo is definitely the firmest pillow we tested, and for those that really like supportive pillows, it’s the way to go. Tempur-Pedic has a history of making quality memory foam pillows and mattresses, and this pillow is no exception. Despite it being a solid block of memory foam, this pillow is plenty cool, whereas some memory foam pillows can be total heat sinks.

Xtreme Comforts Shredded Memory Foam Bamboo

Dimensions:Fill:REASONS TO BUY

The Xtreme Comforts Shredded Memory Foam Bamboo is a soft, adjustable rectangular pillow with a decent memory foam fill. Its adjustability is a nice touch. Otherwise, it would be too full and fluffy for a pillow for side sleepers. We were also impressed that it doesn’t hold much heat take note, anyone seeking the eternally cold pillow. Another nice touch is that it’s easy to wash.

In some ways, this pillow is very similar to the Coop pillow, but we like the Coop pillow a bit more. The Xtreme Comforts pillow became lumpier as we adjusted the fill level, leaving the corners empty. The fill stuck to itself somewhat and wouldn’t evenly fill the casing. Still, it’s a well-made product, and if you’re looking for a soft, adjustable pillow without spending too much, it might be a decent option.

The Beans72 Organic Buckwheat is a small yet thick cushion filled with organic buckwheat hulls in unbleached cotton fabric. The pillow comes overstuffed but easily adjustable. Unlike some other adjustable models, we found managing the fill removal to be easy and less messy. We like how cool the buckwheat stayed. Beans72 is also a very small company, so if you like the idea of supporting a cottage company, check this pillow out.

How We Evaluated These Pillows

Our hands-on testing process involves each person lying on the pillow for several minutes to evaluate support, pressure relief, and other qualities. While these particular evaluations focused on side sleeping, we asked the testers to change positions to see if the pillow felt more or less comfortable. We also test pillows for temperature control, shape retention, odor potential, and other factors that dont impact your sleep position. The top picks listed above reflect pillows that earned the most favorable ratings during these tests.

Mkicesky Side Sleeper Memory Foam

Dimensions:Fill:REASONS TO BUY

Despite the name, we believe the Mkicesky Side Sleeper Memory Foam suits back sleepers better than side sleepers. It has a unique shape essentially a hole cut in the middle that cradles your head when on your back, which we liked when wearing earbuds in bed. The pillow also has a raised mesh fabric that allows more airflow between your head and the foam to keep things cooler.

The Mkicesky seems like a better back sleeper pillow, though. The scoop in the middle of the pillow fit our testers’ necks much better when on their backs, whereas it tended to push our shoulders down awkwardly when we laid on our sides. It worked a bit better for side sleepers if we used the side of the pillow, but then we didn’t get the benefits of the cradle in the middle or the mesh. We think this is a decent product, but it would be much better if marketed towards back sleepers than side sleepers.

Eli And Elm Side Sleeper Pillow Feel

Best Pillow Type For Side Sleepers

Heres the juicy part, how does the Eli and Elm Side Sleeper Pillow feel? Its light and soft thanks to the fluffy polyester fill, but the latex foam shreds gives the pillow a more structured, supportive feel that will keep a side sleepers head properly propped up. Its also responsive to pressure, unlike memory foam which will slowly conform to the curves of your head.

The firmness will depend on the amount of filling you have on the inside. Thanks to its adjustability, you can take it from a lofty, firm pillow to a one with a softer, lighter firmness.

How High Should A Pillow Be For Side Sleepers

A loft of at least four inches is a side sleeper’s best bet in maintaining neutral spine alignment. That elevation relieves pressure on the shoulders and keeps your head at a nice upward angle to prevent neck strain and maintain a healthy posture.

Firmness matters, too. Regardless of whether the stuffing is down, down alternative, gel, polyester, memory foam, or some unique combo of a few, your pillow needs to be firm enough to keep its shape throughout the night and buoyant enough to keep your 10-pound head afloat instead of sagging down in the middle. Sturdy fill also has a way of puffing up around the area being pressed down, keeping your head still and up on its side.

Eli & Elm Pillow Comfort & Support:

Eli & Elm Pillow Review (Best For Side Sleepers?)

One of the better aspects of Eli & Elm is the support that the pillows are able to provide. Side sleepers have a difficult time finding the perfect pillow. Side sleepers need a pillow that is neither too flat nor too thick. They need a pillow that provides able support to neck and head. The thing that Eli and Elm has going for it is that you can change the amount of filling in the pillow. You can make the pillow as thick or as thin as you want it to be. You can customize the pillow to give you the proper spinal alignment. The proper spinal alignment will help you with sleeping posture and will prevent chronic neck pain.

The pillow also sleeps cool throughout the night. The pillow also has amazing breathability and it does not retain too much heat. The latex pillow is far better at sleeping cool than the foam pillows. The design of the pillow also allows for air to breathe easily.

The shape of the pillow is also very different and has a unique feel to it. The shape of the pillows is your standard rectangular shape. The side sleeper pillow also has some subtle changes that make it conform more easily to the sleeperâ shoulder and provide you with a much more comfortable sleeping experience.

The ability to change the filling of the pillow is also a big plus as you can make the pillow as cool, as a firm, and as soft as you want. This is a big plus.

What To Look For When Buying Side Sleeper Pillows

Loft

The loft of a pillow is the height from the mattress to the top of the pillow, and its an essential consideration for side sleepers. A too-low pillow can cause neck strain, while a too-high pillow might result in headaches. Pillows with a loft of 4 to 6 inches are generally considered ideal for side sleepers.

Filling material

The filling material also plays a vital role in comfort. Down and feather pillows are popular because theyre soft and moldable but can be expensive. Synthetic fillings like polyester and memory foam are also popular choices. Some side sleepers even prefer to use multiple for the best combination of comfort and support.

Cover material

The cover material of a pillow is also something to consider. Side sleepers need a breathable cover to help regulate temperature and prevent sweat build-up. Cotton and bamboo are popular choices, but many synthetic options are also available.

Size

Smaller side sleeper pillows might not provide enough support, while large ones can be difficult to maneuver. Standard pillows are generally the right choice for side sleepers.

Firmness level

Pillows that are too soft might not provide enough support for the neck and head, whereas pillows that are too firm can be uncomfortable. The perfect balance of softness and support is the sweet spot.

How Its Built And With What Material

The pillow is made with several key ingredients: organic cotton, spandex, latex, and polyester.

The cover a cotton and polyester mix, with 37% organic cotton for breathability and soft touch, 2% spandex for stretchiness, and 61% polyester for durability and a longer lifespan.

The shredded filling is designed as proprietary noodle-shape which you can remove to adjust the thickness and comfort level of the pillow. The filling uses a latex and polyester mix, with 75% latex for bounciness and firm support, and 25% polyester fiber. There is also a mix of cooling gel that helps with temperature regulation.

The latex does have off-gassing, which is an unpleasant odor smell. After using a few freshly washed queen-size pillow cases, the smell eventually goes away and youre left with a uniquely constructed pillow built!

Despite the chemical-like smell, the pillow is made free of any harmful chemicals.
