The only difference between these beds is how much of Purples special grid layer is included in each. The original Hybrid uses 2 inches, the Premier 3 uses 3 inches, and the Premier 4 uses 4 inches.

Motion Isolation And Noise
Surprisingly, the Original Purple mattress does a pretty good job of limiting motion transfer. You might not think so, given how responsive and sort of bouncy the polymer top layer is, but the bed actually passed our tests easily. It also doesnt make any noise, virtually none, which is standard with most new online beds nowadays.

According to the Purple website, their mattresses should last 10 years. They also offer a 10-year limited warranty.
However, some reviewers report issues with sagging and discomfort after a year or two of using their Purple mattress. Many factors can impact how long a mattress lasts, including your weight, the type of mattress, and the type of bedframe its on. This makes it difficult to say how long each mattress will last.

Motion Transfer
Motion transfer is the amount of movement detectable from one side of the bed to the other. This is an important factor for all sleepers, but especially for couples or folks who share a bed with a child or furry best friend.
To illustrate motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
Considering how bouncy these mattresses are, Im not that surprised to see they dont offer great motion isolation. What this tells me is that youre likely to feel movement across all three mattresses, which means they may not be the best fit for couples, especially if one partner is easily disturbed at night.
Sex
The best mattress for sex usually combines good motion isolation with enough bounce to make it easy to move around. Personally, I think the Purple Hybrids are a bit too bouncy to share if youre a light sleeper. But if youre not easily disturbed at night, they could be nice options for sex thanks to their lift and mobility.

Both mattresses have a Grid layer, but thats where the similarities end. The original Purple mattress is medium-firm with a very stable feel. It has a balanced level of support and comfort and a soft cover that lets you feel the Grid.
The Purple Hybrid has a firm feel with a dynamic response thanks to its layer of coils. Its also a few inches thicker. Its covered with a soft, stretchy material that features breathable side panels for enhanced airflow.
Individual body weight and type will play a role in how either mattress feels in terms of comfort, but the general rule of thumb is the thicker the Grid layer, the more weightless you feel. If thats important to you, you can upgrade to other Purple mattresses for a deeper Grid layer.

Is The Purple Mattress Good Quality
To assess the quality of the Purple Mattress I looked at three things: support, motion transfer, and shifting.
A quality mattress provides consistent support over time. A telltale sign of diminishing support, and lack of quality, is a permanent indentation where you sleep. After 15 months of sleeping in my Purple Hybrid Premier, I have seen no indentations in the mattress. It supports me just as well as when I first purchased it.
For those who share a bed, minimal motion transfer is an essential characteristic of a comfortable bed. One persons tossing and turning shouldnt turn into two people tossing and turning. Although I do notice when my husband gets in and out of bed, it doesnt disturb or move me. Any motion transfer that occurs is nearly imperceptible.
Finally, shifting is also minimal with this mattress. In the 15 months that weve had it, its probably moved about 1½ inches from the center of the platform. Despite its weight, it was easy to move it back by myself.
