A polymer is simply a chemical substance made with repeating units. In the case of the Purple Grid, the polymer is formed into a lattice patternand, yes, its purple. Back Pain I think this is a nice mattress for back pain. The map is all blue at my back in each position, which shows theres low pressure there. However, if you have severe back pain I might opt for a slightly firmer bed, which will help keep your spine in a straight line.
Shoulder Pain I like the Purple for shoulder pain. The grid offers some great pressure relief and should cradle sore shoulders well.
Hip Pain I also like the Purple for hip pain. Again, that grid layer does a great job cradling the body. However, if youre a side sleeper with severe hip pain, Id go for a softer mattress that will give you even more pressure relief.

Purple uses polyethylene-based powder in the making of their mattresses. This polyethylene-based powder is claimed to be harshly toxic by several studies. The powder is used as dust in pillows and mattresses for different reasons such as it prevents the mattresses from sticking when they are compressed for shipping and transporting.
Purple claims that the white polyethylene-based powder does not penetrate through the mattress cover. However, people started to get concerned about the toxic effects the powder can develop on their skins. Although the company shows everything good about the product. Even the reviews, and every description over the website show 0% side-effects, but there was something that only Ryan Monahan from Honest Mattress Reviews found out.
In an article at a review site Honest Mattress Reviews, Monahan claimed that the powder used in the Purple mattresses can develop harmful reactions to your health.
