Can You Wash a Purple Mattress Cover?

Its easy to select any mattress you like and then call it a day. Yes, youll save dollars and perhaps some time by doing your research, but spend enough nights on a mattress that you dont know about and then youll begin to wonder the reason you wake up tired and unrested compared to the night before.

Purple Mattress aims to solve this problem by analyzing the factors that make a great sleep even better with some proprietary technologies like their Purple Grid Layer, which makes the mattress feeling that is different from other mattresses in the market. This article will explore the possibility of whether Purple Mattress is the right choice for your next mattress purchase.

Shipping Trial And Warranty

The Purple Mattress comes rolled up in a shipping bag.

Even if you’re an avid online shopper, it’s difficult to purchase over the internet when you’re unconfident about a brand’s policies. Especially when it comes to returns.

The Purple ships for free in a cardboard box directly to your front door. All you have to do is open it up, remove the plastic wrap, unroll, and voila — you have yourself a new bed. There will be an off-gassing smell right when you take it out of the box, but I wouldn’t say it’s a deal-breaker since it disappears after a few days.

They offer a 100-night trial, giving you more than three months to figure out if you like the bed or not. You should give yourself at least 30 days, though, to give your body a chance to get used to the feel.

Purple offers a 10-year warranty for its original Purple mattress, which is pretty much the standard for online beds.

Now Its Time To Clean Your Mattress

Dust, dust mites, mold, and dead skin cells are the last thing you want to think about when you head to bed at night. A professional mattress cleaning may be the best option for you if youre concerned about allergens. You may also want to consider the cost of a new mattress and how long youve had your current mattress to determine the value a professional cleaning would have for you.

If you want to DIY the mattress cleaning, its pretty simple but takes some time. All you need is a cloth for spot cleaning, a spray bottle with water, some baking soda, and some liquid dish soap. Although youll be using liquids to clean the mattress, be sure not to soak any part of the mattress. Doing so can lead to more mold growth just the thing youre trying to avoid.

Although we spend so much time in them, most mattresses get neglected when it comes to cleaning. Most people dont think to include mattress cleaning as a part of their regular routine. You can extend the life of your mattress with regular cleaning, so consider doing it every six months.

How To Get The Pee Smell Out Of A Mattress

If youve already cleaned up your mattress but it still smells of urine, there are a few different things you can try.

As outlined in our mattress cleaning guide, simply spreading baking soda out over the mattress is surprisingly effective. Baking soda is unique in that it actually absorbs odors, rather than just masking them. The basic pH of baking soda helps to neutralize the generally acidic odors of urine, while its tendency to absorb liquid helps to draw out any remaining moisture.

For best results in neutralizing urine odors in your mattress, spread a thin layer of baking soda out over the entire mattress surface. If a specific area smells more strongly, you can use a slightly thicker layer of baking soda. Allow the baking soda to sit, uncovered, for 5 to 10+ hours, and then vacuum it. Repeat as needed.

Another option is to use a vinegar solution, as discussed above. Use a 50/50 mixture of cold water and distilled white vinegar. You can also consider adding a few drops of an essential oil, such as lavender or eucalyptus, to help cover up any unpleasant smells. Apply it to the surface of your mattress using a spray bottle, and allow it to air-dry fully. Then, use baking soda to remove any remaining moisture, and to neutralize the strong vinegar smell from the cleaning solution.

How To Get Pee Out Of A Mattress

If the urine is fresh, first take off all of the bedding and throw it in the wash. Grab a dry towel and blot as much of the urine out of the mattress as you can. Dont rub or scrub the spot, as this will just force the urine into the mattress. Next, use a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water and blot out the excess liquid. Cover the spot in baking soda and let it sit. The baking soda should draw the urine out of the mattress and into the baking soda, changing the color. Let the baking soda sit for 8-10 hours, then vacuum the baking soda out of the mattress. Repeat the process if discoloration is still visible.

    Spot Clean Any Fresh Stains

If you see any fresh stains, its best to address them right off the bat. Use a damp cloth with cold water to blot the stain. Use light pressure so you dont push the stain further into the fibers of the mattress. You may notice some of the stain immediately comes off with this gentle motion.

Its important to never try to soak part of your mattress with either water or cleaning solution. If you pour liquid onto the mattress, it will cause mold or mildew and damage the mattress fibers. If you do happen to put too much water or cleanser on your mattress, allow it to air dry as long as possible. Place a portable fan in front of the spill to help it dry.

A mixture of baking soda and dish soap is a good stain remover for most types of stains. Dont go mixing up a whole bucket, though. Youre only going to need a small amount. Just combine two tablespoons of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap.

Stir the moisture together until you see suds similar to a bubble bath. You can use a new kitchen brush or old toothbrush to really get the soapy mixture into the stain. Once the stain has been lifted, blot with a cloth until the spot is dry to the touch. If you used too much soap and the spot is still sudsy, blot again with a wet cloth. Repeat until the area is free from soap bubbles.
