Is Aerobed A Good Mattress

An Overview On Air Matresses

AeroBed Queen 18″ Air Mattress with Antimicrobial Sleep Surface on QVC

When looking to buy a new air mattress, the first consideration should be how you plan to use it. Do you plan to use the inflatable mattress for camping or other types of travel?

Will you mostly be using the inflatable bed in your home to accommodate overnight house guests? Some people even use blow-up beds as a long-term substitute for traditional mattresses.

Once you determine how your air mattress will be used, you can consider other elements, including construction, inflation and deflation times, pump types, and the overall quality and durability of the inflatable mattress.

From a construction standpoint, there are two primary types of airbeds: Those made with coil construction and those made with a traditional beam construction. Youll recognize a coil air mattress by the pockets on the mattress top that look similar to the pockets on a regular mattress whereas a traditional beam construction typically has seams running the length of the mattress. Coil construction is generally more supportive and comfortable.

If you are purchasing a blow-up bed to be used in your home for guests and plan to use it with some regularity, a double-height or double-high airbed would be a good choice. These mattresses generally blow up to be 16 to 22 inches off the ground and more closely resemble the height of a standard bed than a single height mattress.

Air mattresses range in size from twin to king. You should be able to find a decent air mattress to fit your needs and your budget.

When it comes to toddlers not being able to sleep at night, I feel like Im something of an expert. Like most parents, Ive been there many times! I get lots of customers who want to be able to sleep in comfort while they camp, and I can usually find something that works for them.

One couple came to see me a while back for this very reason. They were happy with the options I showed them, but I couldnt help overhearing them talking about where their toddler would be staying while they went on holidays. I asked why they werent taking the child along with them. They stared at me in horror, making me wish Id kept my mouth shut.

Tips On Making The Most Of Your Airbed

Now, let me tell you one thing:

Even a quality airbed for everyday use needs proper maintenance so that it can serve you for longer.

And Ive got some tips you can use to prolong the lifespan of your blow-up bed.

  • Use bedding. The top flocked layer might feel very plush, but it also wears out more quickly due to the constant contact with your body and friction. The best way to protect the top and maintain the fresh look of your inflatable bed is to use it with sheets. Plus, a nice bedding set will make it look more like a standard bed.
  • Keep pets away. Even the most durable materials cannot withstand the claws and teeth of your beloved pup or kitten. So, its better not to allow pets on the airbed at all, and store it in a place where they wont be able to get close.
  • Deflate and re-inflate your mattress every 3-4 days. Its mandatory if you plan to use your inflatable mattress actively. The thing is, the mattress walls might stretch because of the resistance to your body weight, causing the mattress to lose its shape very quickly. So, deflating it regularly will allow the materials to restore their elasticity.
  • Dont over-inflate the mattress. For the same reason, do not inflate your mattress fully, especially on your first night. Instead, inflate it to about 90%. This will prevent ruptures .

How To Find The Best Air Mattress

There are several key features to consider as you shop:

  • Pump: Options include manual, battery-operated, and outlet plug-in. Most air mattresses come with a pump , but sometimes you’ll need to purchase one separately.
  • Inflation time: The mattress should be able to inflate and deflate in just a few minutes. This is typically listed as a specification from the manufacturer.
  • Height: A taller air mattress that’s at least 18-inches high is typically more comfortable, but a lower profile one is easier to roll up and carry. It comes down to personal preference and whether you’re using it at home or on the go.
  • Air chambers: The most supportive air mattresses have vertical air chambers or coils that help distribute weight. Air beams that run side to side can still feel comfortable, but you may notice some sagging when you lie down. You can spot the difference by looking at the surface: Ones with the less supportive air beams look like rows.
  • Flocked fabric: The material feels like suede and can be found on the top side of air mattresses as well as the bottom .

To clean your air mattress, first lay it out flat on the floor and use a handheld vacuum to remove any crumbs and dust on the surface. To remove stains, you can inflate the air mattress, unplug it, and then use a soft cloth and a mild soapy solution to wash it. Don’t use any harsh chemicals or cleaning products as they could damage the air mattress.

Best Air Mattress For 2022

We inflated and slept on some of the most popular air mattress models from Intex, SoundAsleep, Lightspeed Outdoors and more. Here’s what we learned.

If you’re frequently hosting overnight guests but don’t have room for a regular bed for them to use, an air mattress could definitely come in handy. The best air mattresses offer adequate back support, overall comfort and the semi-secure feeling that the whole thing isn’t going to deflate overnight. An inflatable mattress is also convenient if you’re camping and don’t want to put your sleeping bag on the cold, hard ground — you could even throw one in a truck bed for sleeping under the stars.

We’ve taken the most popular mattresses on Amazon and other major retailers and put them through a battery of hands-on testing to see which might potentially offer a comfortable sleep. This includes repeatedly inflating and deflating air beds, evaluating their durability and construction, and subjecting them to the rigors of camping and a series of acrobatically inclined children’s sleepovers to test them for comfort, air pressure and how puncture-resistant the air chamber is .

To narrow down the best air mattress options, we confined testing for our buyer’s guide to queen size mattress models, rather than twin size to standard size and included comfort and price comparisons.

So When Aerobed Offered To Send Us A Bed To Review We Rather Jumped At The Chance After All If We Set It Up And We Didnt Think It Was Any Good My Sister Will Still Bless Us For Not Having To Sleep On The Lounge Floor When She Visits

So when it arrived this week we immediately hauled it out of the box, plugged it in and set it to inflate.I didnt time it, but it was easily inside the suggested 3 minutes. THREE MINUTES. It takes me about 30 minutes to pump up a normal camping airbed by foot.

And its HUGE. Importantly, its just as high as a normal bed which was our first concern as Father in Law simply cannot get down to anything lower.

I decided that Mr LittleStuff would be proclaimed chief tester he properly hates airbeds, and would always choose to sleep on a hard floor than wallow around in one. I figured if he was a pretty tough test for it to pass.

So the minute he got in from the gym , I nabbed him and told him to get on and see what he thought.

Raising an eyebrow in distrust, he sat gingerly on the edge and didnt immediately sink to his knees or roll off. Thats a BIG plus point the edges stay as firm as youd hope a normal mattress would. A little sinkage, but nothing drastic.

Then he stretched out flat and literally ooooh!-ed.

The completely astonishing thing is that the Aerobed is solid. Secure. It really feels comfortable and steady underneath you. When I got on too there was no rolling into the middle, and no bouncing up and down as the other person got on or off. A little movement, but nothing like that sea-sick feeling you expect from an airbed.

Then Bear showed up and asked if she could get on

Mr littleStuffs verdict?

Heres the quick lowdown:

The Aerobed Might Not Be Good For

  • Those who want something for camping. The AeroBed is a big air mattress, and its height is about 20 inches. Its size might make it too big for many tents. People who need something to inflate inside the confines of a tent or in the back of an SUV might want to look for something on the smaller side.
  • People who want a more affordable air mattress. The AeroBed offers a lot, but it is more expensive than many other air mattresses on the market. The Queen size of the AeroBed goes for around $350.
  • People who prefer choosing their own specific firmness. The three firmness option of the AeroBed is an excellent feature. However, the air mattress doesnt allow the sleeper to choose their personal specific firmness. And one might find it difficult to let out just a bit of air to get the exact firmness that one desires.

What To Expect And Do With A New Mattress

No matter how expensive or well made, an air mattress is not meant to replace a real mattress. It wont withstand nightly use over a long period of time . Always check a new mattress for air leaks and significant deflation overnight . If there are any problems, catching them early will assure that you are still well within your warranty period and getting a replacement shouldnt be an issue. See our section on care and maintenance for more advice on how to keep your air mattress in good shape.

Drawbacks Of Using An Air Mattress Everyday

Even the highest-quality air mattress is vulnerable to punctures and leaks, and no one wants to wake up on a half-inflated bed.

With a few notable exceptions, warranties are limited, so youll be on the hook for repairing or replacing your air mattress in the event of a leak.

While comfort is subjective, some people wont like the feel of an air mattress, no matter how high quality the materials.

Review Of Aerobed Classic Double

Aerobed began its story in 1992 and its one of the company with the most models reviewed one of them, an industry classic, the Aerobed Double-High

Compared to other brands, the main thing Aerobed inflatable beds have going for them is their price-quality ratio. Theyre not the best portable beds out there by any stretch of the imagination, but they offer more than enough at a very reasonable price. Its not easy competing with all the SoundAsleeps, Instas and Colemans out there, but Aerobed is doing a bang up job so far. And the Classic Double-high version, available in king and queen size, is no exception.

So, they wont be winning any best or top-rated air mattress awards anytime soon, but theyre good at what they do, and thats embodying the business policy their manufacturer is pushing forward. Enough small talk, lets see how it was rated it our latest update and why its placed second in the top 3 Aerobeds.
