Sleeping On The Puffy Lux And Purple Mattresses

We felt good while back sleeping on the Puffy Lux it provided adequate spinal support along with plenty of body contouring and pressure relief.
Moving to our side on the Puffy Lux, we enjoyed lots of pressure relief around the shoulder and hip thanks to the soft memory foam. Overall, the Puffy Lux provided more pressure relief than the Purple mattress.
While stomach sleeping on the Puffy Lux, we didnt feel quite enough support under the hips they bowed into the mattress a bit, which throws the spine out of alignment. Strict stomach sleepers will want to look for a firmer mattress.
Purple
In our experience, the Purple is one of the absolute best mattresses for back sleepers. The gel grid collapses a bit under the butt and hips for some pressure relief, while the rest of the mattress stays supportive this promotes healthy spinal alignment.
While side sleeping on the Purple, our heavier-weight reviewer found that his body activated the gel grid, which collapsed under the pressure points to create cradling relief. That being said, lighter-weight sleepers might find the grid stays firmer and doesnt provide as much comfort.
The Purple provided adequate support while stomach sleeping it kept the hips elevated and aligned with the spine, which created neutral spinal alignment.
What Does The Puffy Lux Feel Like
When you rest on the Puffy Lux mattress, youll gently sink into its foam layers. But thanks to its layer of Plush Dual Cloud foam, you wont have difficulty moving around or switching sleeping positions. Even though the Puffy Lux Hybrid has a layer of strong coils at the bottom, it doesnt have a traditional bouncy feel.
Edge Support Of The Puffy Lux Mattress
Edge support is how well a mattress holds weight along the edges. This is important if you sleep on a smaller bed or share a bed with a partner and sleep nearer to the edge. Its less critical on larger beds like a king, or if you sleep alone.The Puffy Lux performed quite well in terms of support along the edges, which isn’t surprising for a hybrid mattress. Since the core is made of coils, you won’t feel like you’re about to fall off if you sleep near the edge.

Lets talk for a moment about durability expectations. If youve taken a look at the website, youll see Puffy offers two models. We have the original Puffy mattress pictured here to the left, and you can see its a little thinner than the Lux model. This is because it lacks the second layer of Body Adapting Dual Cloud Foam.
Although this is only a 1 ½ inch layer comprising only about 13% of the total layer lineup, we can see the price more than doubles as we upgrade to the Lux model, so lets talk about why that is.
The densities of the foams arent provided, and this is what we use to examine quality, so I extracted square inch cubes of foam and took them to the lab to gather this data for myself. Following are my calculations:

We ranked both the Puffy Lux and the Purple around a 6.5 out of 10 the industry standard for medium firmness is 6.5, so both of these beds are right around medium-firm.

My Puffy Mattress Recommendation
Overall the Puffy is a conforming, soft mattress that should please people that like a softer feel with conforming foam. At $850 for a queen size after the $300 discount, its right on target with other brands. I was really impressed with how it conforms and relieves pressure without being hard to move around on.
