The Puffy mattress lacks bounce, which makes it more difficult to change positions. The medium firmness and memory foam comfort layer also restrict movement to a certain extent.

Though the foam returns to its original shape when you change positions, the Puffy mattress may not be resilient enough for some couples. This is typical of foam mattresses. On the plus side, the Puffy mattress is silent when bearing weight, so there are no squeaking coils to worry about.

How Firm Is The Puffy Mattress

Before we get into it, remember that firmness is subjective. A mattress will feel firmer or softer to different sleepers depending on their body weight, shape, and preferred sleeping positions. The Puffy in particular will feel firmer to heavier sleepers who sink through its memory foam layer and onto its firmer transition layer. It will feel lighter to lightweight folks who dont sink through its memory foam top layer.

For reference, Im 59 and about 125 lbs. The Puffy initially felt super soft when I lay down, but after I sank through the top layer I felt strong support from its transition layer. I gave this mattress a 6.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale, which means its a medium-firm mattress.

The Puffys combination of softness and support might be especially helpful to those suffering from arthritis. I also think back sleepers could also enjoy the plush support the Puffy offers. It does an especially nice job of contouring at the lower back. This in the bed feel is a great fit for folks who like some hug, but combination sleepers might prefer a more responsive and bouncier mattress.

Light to average-weight side sleepers should also enjoy the Puffys medium firmness level. Like a traditional memory foam mattress, the Puffy should offer the pressure-relief these sleepers need to avoid stiffness at the shoulders and hips. If youre on the heavier side, you may sink further into the Puffy and find it too firm around your shoulders and hips.

My Puffy Mattress Complaints

I will say that heavier sleepers will probably not find the Puffy comfortable. This bed is just 10 inches tall, so I dont think it will offer the deep compression support these folks need to feel comfortable and supported throughout the night.

Like many all-foam beds, it may start to sag earlier than a mattress that includes innerspring support. But, Puffy does offer a lifetime warranty on this mattress, so if your old Puffy mattress starts to sag you may be able to replace it for free!

Unlikely To Sag In The Middle

Due to the high-density foams that make up the support and transition layers, I think that the Puffy Original has a low chance of sagging or developing indents.

However, the risk of sagging increases towards the edge of the mattress due to the lack of edge support so my advice would be to avoid sitting on the edge of the bed for long periods.
