As with any feel factor, firmness level is subjective, and can change a lot depending on ones size, shape, and weight. Therefore, my interpretation of the GhostBed may differ from your own. For reference, Im 510, 190 lbs., and prefer to sleep on my stomach.

After rolling around on the GhostBed, I decided to give it a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it seems this bed is a touch on the firmer side.

The mattress got a 7 from me because I felt as though the predominant feel was one of support and bounce. Though I did get some nice contouring from the middle memory foam layer, I wouldnt say it curbed very much of the lift I experienced from the latex and high-density poly foam. At its core, 3D Matrix is the Flex mattress, but with a special 3D Matrix Polymer layer just under the cover. This layer is designed to help keep you at a comfortable sleeping temperature and prevent you from sinking too far into the mattress.

How Firm Is The Flex

Our team has tested Flex over and over again and we keep coming back to the 4 to 6 firmness range for the mattress. We wouldnt be at all surprised, however, if you thought the Flex was a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale or a 4 out of 10. In general, though, its a medium in terms of firmness.

If you take a look inside the mattress, it doesnt look like it has many comfort layers, but if you add them up, youre getting about 4 inches of cushioning. Its definitely not as firm as it appears when you first look inside the bed.

Inside The Ghostbed Luxe Mattress

Despite being a luxury mattress, GB Luxe has an all-foam construction. It measures in at 13 inches thick in total, meaning its one of the thicker foam beds online.

• Support layer: 7.5 inches of polyurethane foam
• Transition layer: named Ghost Bounce because it added a little extra responsiveness
• Comfort layer: 2 inches of gel memory foam provides the bulk of the comfort for GB Luxe
• Cooling sheet: named Ghost Ice, this layer is a phase-change material to help cool you down
• Cover: a quilted cover that incorporates 1 inch of gel memory foam and a Ghost Ice fabric

This should give you a good idea of the layers within the mattress. Like the Original GhostBed mattress, GB Luxe has a 7.5-inch dense poly foam base layer. Nothing too special here.

On top of the base layer is a transition layer called Ghost Bounce, which is a fancy name for a foam that does two things. First, it helps to soften the mattress. And second, it helps to make the bed a little more responsive overall. This layer is 2 inches thick.

The main comfort layers for the bed are made of gel memory foam. The first layer is 2 inches thick, and the second layer is actually quilted into the cover. This layer is about 1 inches thick in total.

Inside the cover, there is about 1 inch of gel memory foam and about 1/2 inch of a cooling fiber layer. But thats not it. The top portion of the cover uses a cooling textile that makes it cool to the touch.

We do like this bed, and ignoring the price tag we think its a compelling product for a lot of people. Its comfortable. It feels highly accommodating.

And theres something special about the 3D Matrix material even if it looks a little underwhelming. GhostBed makes all sorts of bold claims about this mattress, none of which we can substantiate, but we do really like it.
