What Do You Think Of Ikea Mattresses
The Swedish furniture maker has a reputation for aesthetically pleasing, bare-bones furniture designed for modern spaces. While they are not best known for their bedding options, their beds range in price from $159 to $899, plus they offer a 25-year limited warranty.
Within this range, they also offer innerspring, foam, and hybrid constructions. Before you jump in your car and head over to Ikea for Swedish meatballs and a bed, it may help you to know that their mattress firmness levels are generally rated as Firm to Medium Firm. This means that if youre a side sleeper, you may not feel as comfortable, but if youre strictly a stomach sleeper, you may be able to find something you like.
What Is A Full
A full mattress has two parts. The bottom is called a box spring. This is the what sits on a bed frame. The top mattress is the area where you sleep. Buy the two items together and you’ve got what’s called a full size mattress set or box spring set for short.
Full-size mattresses come in a variety of types such as a soft, medium or firm mattress. And because every person has different sleep needs, there are even medium firm mattresses. Some memory foam mattresses are so firm that no box spring is required, simply place the mattress on a platform bed and enjoy its low profile in the bedroom.

How We Picked And Tested
We started our research for this guide by evaluating about two-dozen cheap mattresses, using criteria similar to what we use for our main foam, hybrid, and innerspring guides. This is what we look for:
We also considered the quality of each mattress companys customer service, but in the end that didnt factor into our decision process. With the exception of a few standouts, customer service was subpar across the category compared with that of companies selling more-expensive mattresses. I got disconnected from multiple customer service calls after being on hold for several minutes, and most of the companies I contacted wouldnt reveal information, such as the foam densities of their mattresses. Several companies had average or poor ratings with the Better Business Bureau . On the whole, when you buy a cheaper mattress, you can expect to get less-personalized treatment and less access to customer service.
Eventually, I settled on five finalists: the Best Price Mattress Memory Foam, the Classic Brands Cool Gel Memory Foam, the Vibe Gel Memory Foam, the Zinus Cooling Copper Adaptive Hybrid, and the Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam. I then slept on each mattress for at least one week in my apartment, and I spent a week sleeping on the Novaform ComfortGrande to assess how a more expensive mattress compared.

How Do Mattress Types Vary By Price
Of all the different mattress types available, the most budget-friendly is memory foam. Memory foam mattresses range anywhere from $250 to $1,000 and last roughly 7 years. A durable mattress features a strong support base and a top layer that prevents unnecessary sagging. The best memory foam mattresses use high-density foam to support larger sleepers, combination sleepers or stomach sleepers- in addition to lighter sleepers.
These same sleepers often need mattresses with additional layers and a stronger construction, leading to a higher price.
An innerspring mattress provides extra bounce and breathability for hot sleepers, and is often stronger for larger sleepers. Hybrid mattresses combine the foam layers of a memory foam bed and the coil construction of an innerspring mattress. A decenthybrid mattress ranges anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000 and lasts about 10 years. Hybrids are more durable than memory foam, and you will pay for that.
Latex mattresses can reach prices up to $3,000 because of their naturally sourced materials, which cost more to produce. Latex mattresses often incorporate natural wool or cotton to increase breathability and increase the organic materials within the mattress construction. However, like hybrids, latex mattresses are highly durable, lasting up to 15 years and less likely to sag than layers of foam.
How To Get The Firmness Level Just Right
You have likely experienced various mattresses in your lifetime. Even if youve had the same one for many years, youve likely slept over at a friend or family members house or in a hotel. Weve all been on mattresses that we love and mattresses that we hate. It happens! Not every mattress is suitable for every sleeper and vice versa. Its likely that you have an idea of whether you prefer a soft, medium or firm product. However, as you shop online, how do you gauge your firmness preferences? The number you need to be on the lookout for is indentation load deflection. This is the amount of pressure measured in pounds it takes a 50 square inch circular indenter to compress the material a total of 25 percent of its total thickness.
An ILD of 12 pounds is very soft, and 50 pounds is very firm. This gives you a good idea of what will be best for you. Now, if youre not sure, theres a good chance you may fall into the majority as most people are well accommodated by a medium product, and this would be an ILD of anywhere between 25 and 31 pounds. Wrapping your head around ILD ratings isnt as hard as it seems and will make a huge difference in ensuring youll end up with the mattress you deserve.
Dreamfoam Chill Memory Foam Mattress
The DreamFoam Chill is an affordable all-foam mattress available in five heights: 6″, 8″, 10″, 12″ and 14″ versions. The firmness level varies per height, with thicker versions feeling softer.
If youre a budget shopper, the DreamFoam Chill could be your perfect mattress, ranging from about $199 for a Twin to $449 for a King in the 6 versionswhich brings us to height. Interestingly, this bed comes in five thickness options from 6 to 14. Keep in mind that all these layers are foam, which are not cool to the touch. If you are a hot sleeper, you might like to add the coolingDreamFoam Chill Mattress Topper.
As to firmness, the 10 mattress has more of a medium feel, while the thinner models feel firmer, and the thicker versions are softer. Wed recommend the DreamFoam Chill for lightweight and average-weight sleepers, but it might not be firm and supportive enough for heavyweight folks . Regardless, we think the foam layers should keep most side sleepers and back sleepers supported and comfortable. Perhaps the mattresss best feature is the 2.5 comfort layer made of gel foam, which keeps delicate joints feeling cradled.

Should You Consider A More Expensive Mattress
It all depends on your personal needs. As we note above, if you dont have specific sleep concerns and are on a tight budget, if you move frequently, or if you otherwise dont need a mattress to last for more than a few years, you can get a decently comfortable mattress for under $400 . A cheap mattress can also be a good choice for an infrequently used guest room. However, if you do have more-specialized needs or are looking to make a long-term purchase , a cheap mattress might not be the greatest idea.
If you buy a more expensive mattress, youll likely be happier with your purchase long-term. This is especially true if youre shopping for an innerspring mattress. After testing several cheap innerspring mattresses, we found that most priced under $500 were almost unbearably uncomfortable. Though some cheap foam and hybrid mattresses still feel reasonably comfortable, more expensive oneslike those we recommended in our guide to the best foam mattresses and the best hybrid mattressestend to be made from denser foams and are more durable. Companies that sell pricier mattresses also tend to be more transparent about how their mattresses are made, offer longer trial periods, and have easier return policies .

These categories are fairly consistent in terms of general construction and materials. However, every individual model offers a unique design and customers will notice significant variations within each mattress type. In this next section, well take a closer look at each mattress type.

Should You Choose Firm Or Soft
This works together with comfort and support. It is important that a mattress is never ever too hard, or too soft.A bed mattress ought to be as neutral as it can be, to guarantee both your body and spine stay in a neutral position. Too much rigidness in a mattress will irritate the stress factors, creating pinched nerves, in addition to the blood to stop flowing. If you wake up frequently with the feeling of pins and needles, more than likely your bed mattress is too stiff. And if you wake up with regular neck and back pain, most likely this is because your mattress is too soft. This leads to a concaving result, like a hammock. Which makes your spine be out of alignment. It is necessary to find a bed mattress with a neutral feeling, that will certainly be both rigid and likewise soft in the perfect places.

Are Cheap Mattresses Comfortable
Comfort is subjective. But in general, a mattress that’s comfortable to most people would provide adequate pressure-point relief and good back support . There are certainly cheap mattresses that meet those criteria. Anything beyond that is completely dependent on a sleeper’s build and preferences. In truth, perhaps the bigger concern with cheap mattresses is durability and how long that initial comfort will last.
What To Expect From A Cheap Mattress
For this guide, we focused on mattresses that cost less than $400 for a queen . We identified this cutoff because some of the are in this price range . After years of testing mattresses, weve found that you typically get what you pay for. So what do you get with a really cheap mattress?
Generally speaking, most mattresses in this price range are all-foam or foam-forward hybrids, rather than innerspring. Cheaper mattresses are likely to be made from lower-quality memory foam and polyfoam, have fewer layers, and offer few to no bells and whistles, such as contoured or zoned foams or cooling cover materials. Most of the under-$400 mattresses we looked at had basic, sock-style covers made from polyester or poly-jacquard , which werent particularly thick or soft.
Concerns over the durability of cheaper foams used in budget mattresses are valid.
Cheap mattresses tend to be firmer than more expensive ones. Of the nine mattresses we tested, none could be classified as being soft or medium-soft, and nearly all were at least medium-firm. This is likely because cheap-mattress companies use firmer foam to make a mattress feel more substantial and of a higher quality than it actually is. Cheap mattresses also rarely offer multiple firmness options, as many of our over-$1,000 pickslike the Saatva Classic or Loom & Leafdo.
