Made from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton and hand-tufted with up to 32 rosettes, the non-removable covers for both of Avocados mattresses are free from glue, fire retardants, and other chemicals. The color is a creamy off-white with green piping and green upholstered handles.
Comfort Layers
Beneath the cover, youll find the primary difference between the Avocado Green and Vegan mattresses: a layer of organic wool in the Green, and a layer of organic cotton in the Vegan.
- Avocado sources their GOTS-certified wool from a collective the company co-owns with its farmers. As a natural material, wool provides natural temperature control and superior moisture-wicking qualities. It is also naturally fire-retardant.
- GOTS-certified organic cotton provides many of the same qualities as wool, allowing for airflow and moisture control while adding softness. However, it is not quite as long-lasting as wool.

If youre lighter and you opt for the pillow top version of the bed, it will feel a little softer. We think this model lands in the 8 to 9 range on the firmness scale.

Edge Support And Motion Transfer
I tried sitting on and lying close to the edges of the Avocado Green to test the edge support, and felt nicely supported on each area of the mattress. I didn’t feel like I was going to roll off at any point while I slept on it, either. This didn’t really surprise me after reading about the Avocado Green mattress on the company website, where it describes that the supportive coils are arranged all the way to the edges of the mattress.
But the mattress didn’t perform extremely well for my motion isolation testing, which clashed with my expectations from others’ reviews about it. As I slowly moved around or rose to stand up from the bed, I noticed the flat-bottomed glass of water I had placed beside me could not be trusted to remain upright. The Avocado Green had very little to brag about motion transfer-wise, at least in the twin size. This is fine with me as I sleep alone, but may not be a great attribute if your sleeping partner is restless on a larger mattress.

When I think about pressure relief, Im mostly concerned with how well the mattress in question is able to alleviate tension at sensitive spots like the shoulders, hips, and back.
To figure all that out, I like to use a handy dandy pressure map. I roll this baby out, hop aboard, and let the gadget do the rest! As I move around, the device tracks how my bodys interacting with the bed in real time, and creates a colored map to demonstrate the pressure it experiences. Areas of low pressure are demarcated from blue to green, and areas of high pressure range from yellow to red.
Back Pain Stretching out on my back, I felt some nice pressure relief as the top layer of latex foam filled in the space at my lumbar region. Additionally, I found it incredibly easy to move around and change positions, which could be great for those restless sleepers in the bunch.
