Ensuring Compliance Throughout The Value Chain

Warm Cozy Plush to Sherpa Throw and Pillow Set

All IKEA products are produced in accordance with the IKEA IWAY Standard, our Supplier Code of Conduct. It sets out the minimum environmental and social standards expected from our suppliers, including compliance with local laws. We do not accept any form of forced labor, child labor or treatments in breach of our supply chain requirements. Our cotton teams across the globe ensure that all cotton used in IKEA products meets the demands of compliance in our supply chain. By having teams on the ground in areas where it has previously been challenging to work responsibly, we can challenge the traditional ways of working and improve the industry. If we discover that we are acting in places where we cannot ensure our requirements are being met, we follow-up on the ground and drive change.

Working Together To Drive Change

Each year, IKEA uses around 0.5 percent of all cotton grown around the world. This may not seem like a lot, but the number is big enough to drive change in the industry. For many years, we have been working with partners and stakeholders globally to transform conventional large-scale cotton farming and set social and environmental standards for cotton production. As an example, we helped set up the Better Cotton Initiative who runs the worlds largest cotton sustainability programme. BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sectors future. Today, more than 110,000 farmers have adopted more sustainable farming practices within IKEA projects.

What Is The Best Throw Material

Throws are all about adding texture, dimension, and visual interest to your space. For this reason, the best throw material is one that is different from the rest of your accessories. For example, a linen couch with velvet cushions will look best with a chunky knitted throw. If you have a cotton quilt cover with bold accessories, opt instead for a black throw in luxurious silk. As long as youre creating variation in colour and fabric, any material can be the right choice!

What Is A Throw

A throw is a small blanket that is primarily decorative. While throws are often referred to as rugs or throw blankets, theyre not as large as a typical bed blanket – which is designed to cover the entire surface of the bed. A throw is usually large enough to style and drape and will add a touch of comfort. Made from a wide variety of materials, a good throw will add colour and texture to your space in one go. Its easy to find the right throw for sale in our collection!

Is A Throw The Same As A Blanket

While quite similar, a bed throw in Australia is not the same thing as a blanket. The main purpose of a blanket is to add plenty of warmth to your bed. Made from thick materials, a blanket will come in bed sizes, like Queen or King. Meanwhile, a throw is an accent piece, designed to provide style to your space. Often a lot smaller than a blanket, a throw is made to be artfully draped over the end of a bed or couch to add softness, comfort, and extra texture. Throws can be made of wide, chunky knit, linen, faux fur, or anything that adds visual interest, as their main purpose is not warmth.

Finding The Right Pillows And Throws For You

Today, vintage pillows and throws are staples in interior decorating, especially in living rooms, bedrooms and guest rooms.

If eyes are the windows to the soul, then decorative pillows are the windows to the design aesthetic of ones dreams. They can be showpieces that are the last, final touch to an interior, like a jewel, says Irish cushion designer Katie Larmour.

The use of pillows dates back thousands of years. However, the earliest examples were not the soft pillows of today as Mesopotamians and ancient Egyptians used headrests made of stone. Softer pillows became popular with the Romans and Greeks.

Contemporary, designer and vintage pillows and throws can tie in design elements from all parts of a room to contribute to a more cohesive aesthetic. Whether they incorporate the colors of the rooms curtains or rug, echo the rooms paint color or act as an accent on their own, pillows and throws fill up a space and create a cozy and put-together appearance.

There are throws and pillows to complement any design style. Whether seeking out intricately patterned mid-century modern pillows, simple designs or tribal-style wool pillows, 1stDibs has something for every home or collection.

What Are The Different Types Of Throws

If youre looking to buy a throw, you first need to decide which kind of rugs suit your purpose.

A bed throw is a perfect piece to layer at the foot of your bed, adding a sense of luxury and helping to break up the expanse of your quilt cover. Match the colour and style of your bed throw to your accessories, cushions, and pillows.

A couch throw adds plenty of visual interest to your living room. Drape one stylishly over the back of your armchair or the chaise of your lounge. A good sofa throw will add a new type of fabric to your space to build a stylish look which is why we recommend a soft faux fur throw. Add the finishing touch to your little ones room with a Kids throw. Helping to tie in all their accessories, a natural throw over the end of their bed in an accent colour will make their space feel a bit more grown up.
