Pillow Talk with Craig Conover & Austen Kroll | WWHL

Theres nothing wrong with Craig Conovers sewing.

The Southern Charm star has built himself a bit of a pillow empire with his company, Sewing Down South. The 30-year-old has spent the last few months traveling up and down the East Coast throwing “Pillow Parties” for his followers and fans, where he sells and signs products from his line of home goods. Craig, who studied to be a lawyer and has passed the South Carolina bar exam but never practiced, says he finally feels like hes found his calling.

“I did an event the other day and it said, ‘Craig From Sewing Down South’ instead of ‘Craig From Southern Charm,’ and I was, like, really proud!” he admits to ET at BravoCon, Bravos first-ever fan convention. “I was like, I think Ive really made something. Everyone has been super supportive.”

“I asked Craig yesterday, I said, ‘How many pillows have you sold?’ He told me the number, I got out my calculator, I started doing some math, and I found out how much money he’s actually made and I wanted to vomit,” his co-star, Cameran Eubanks, admits. “And I take back everything I said — he’s making way more money than an attorney. Way more!”

“Yeah, weirdly, I think I’m happy and I found my kind of happy place, I guess,” Craig says.

Craig admits he’s yet to find someone to share that “happy place” with, though he is dating. The reality star has been single since his split from longtime girlfriend Naomie Olindo more than two years ago.

Craig Conovers brand Sewing Down South reached a major milestone when he announced the online launch of an exclusive pillow collection with HSN in July. Its definitely the most excited Ive been since launching the company, Conover told the Daily Dish. It always seemed like such a huge goal, but I definitely thought we were a couple of years away from reaching it.

The collection featured 23 pillows divided into three different lines: Animal, Waterlife, and Americana. I think a lot of my personality comes out in them, Conover told the Daily Dish. They are designed to start a conversation. In addition to finding his pillows on HSN, Southern Charmfans can find Conovers pillows on his Sewing Down South website. Many think Bravos Southern Charm star, Craig Conover, gave up his lucrative career on the way to becoming a lawyer for the simple life, but this isnt necessarily the case. Conovers company, Sewing Down South, has turned him into a pillow-making magnate. He may not have the old money of his influential friends, but he has done quite well on his own.

The 31-year-old is originally from Delaware and comes from a family of athletes. Initially, Craig had aspirations to play major league baseball, but an elbow injury shattered that dream and sent him in an entirely different direction. He studied law at Charleston Law School, and eventually landed a job as a law clerk at Akim Anastopoulo Law Firm. He was just at the beginning of his legal career when he landed a role on the docuseries, Southern Charm, back in 2014.

At the time, according to the Cinemaholic, season one earned him about $25,000 per episode. As of season seven of 2020, Conover is raking in about $30,000 per episode from the show, which would mean $480,000 for the entire season. Of course, reality TV money is nice, but thats really just the tip of the iceberg for Conover.

What was your inspiration for this collection?

The inspiration for this collection with HSN came from wanting to create even more interesting patterns and using unexpected colors. Craig Conover Doesnt Regret Giving Up His Law Career

A post shared by SewingDownSouth on Nov 8, 2019 at 3:40pm PST

Southern Charm fans saw Conovers passion for sewing take over his passion for law play out onscreen, and many of his cast members werent too thrilled about the switch. Conovers girlfriend at the time Naomie Olindo often voiced her opinion that practicing law was more stable than starting a new sewing company. Conover took many of his friends advice personally, but he carried on anyway.

I feel like it has a healthy message: Dont let anyone ever tell you what your passion is and dont be scared to chase it just because its not a societal norm, he told the Daily Dish. It took me until I was 30 years old to start this. Its never too late to go out and do what you want.

After all is said and done, Conover might even be better off with his sewing company than practicing law. Conovers friend and former Southern Charm cast member Cameran Eubanks told ET that she thinks he made the right decision. I asked Craig yesterday, I said, How many pillows have you sold?’ Eubanks told ET during a BravoCon Pillow Party in November 2019. He told me the number, I got out my calculator, I started doing some math, and I found out how much money hes actually made and I wanted to vomit. And I take back everything I said hes making way more money than an attorney. Way more!
